Problem:

I have a problem with my Denon AVR-488 receiver and I'm totally stumped. Saturday night the Digital sounds stopped working. I'm getting no sound at all if the sound is digital. I can hear the AM and FM radio only with the "Direct" setting under the analog setting. Also if I use Red/White cables from my CD player to the receiver I can hear the music no problem. Again analog only. If I switch it back to Digital I get nothing, not a drop of sound or "noise".

Equipment:

I have a Sony CD player connected to the receiver via Optical cable. I also have a Computer with a good Sound Card that is also connected to the Denon Receiver via Optical cable. No TV, Cable box or games console hooked up to this. I had no problems with this setup until Saturday night, simply it stopped working.

Steps I've taken:

1. Did a Micropoccessor reboot
2. Checked that the Optical output was setup correctly under the Receiver
System Setup
3. Reseatted current Optical cables and tried new Optical cables.
4. Gone through all the different settings and nothing.

Any information would be appreciated. I've spent hours on this and looking in the web and nothing has helped. Thanks

Been doing some research about alternative cheap decent receivers and found Sherwood RD-6108 5.1-Channel Surround Sound Receiver is allright.
