As the Onkyo website has just started to "hint" about the Onkyo TX-SR707.
And a website over in Switzerland has a listing and price for the TX-SR707.
I thought it time to start up the "Official" TX-SR707 thread.

Yamaha RX-V671 receiver

Actually the time to start a new thread is when you actually have the component in your hands and can take pics and report...

This may be more of an Official 'Speculation' Thread, but if Tacoboy gets his greasy hands on one, he can start an Owner's Thread

That said, the owner's threads I've browsed of late are lacking in both pictures and owner's so I've developed a similar instinct.

mmm tacos...

Anyway I'm wondering if this will be just like the TX-SR606 -> TX-SR607 upgrade: Dolby Pro Logic IIz , slightly better Audyssey processing, front HDMI, minor cosmetic changes. Anything I'm missing from that update that might be telling?

And, in my case, is going with the 707 over the 607 worth it just for Audyssey Multi EQ? Current street price for the 607 at $400 seems like a solid value - I don't know if the 707 will see similar savings on the street since it is less 'mainstream.'

One disconcerting thing as a 606 owner reviewing the specs on the 607 is it's about 3 pounds lighter. Not a great indicator, but not a confirmed downside either. I keep wondering if the trend will continue into the 70Xs and 80Xs.

With the 70X series over the 60X, the really big difference to most folks isn't the Audyssey, it's the preouts. If you ever want to run separate channel amps off the Onk, the 70X series is the first AVR to incorporate preouts in the Onkyo hierarchy.

as a 705 owner, I would consider this device if the analog upconverting was decent. The Wii looks blurry to me when I connect it to my 705 and send it as 480p over hdmi. If this 707 can clean that image up a bit and send it over with 1080i or p, I would be a happy camper

According to the compare chart ...

Dynamic Volume
Front Panel MP3 jack
Universal Port (back Option connector)

Not sure why "On Screen Programming" isn't checked for the 706 because if you look at the manual, it obviously has it.

Lots of pros for the 706 over the 607 ... I like the extra power. Too bad I don't have time to wait for the 707.

If I'm not mistaken, OnkyoUSA is in New Jersey.

I know that the 706 had some kind of THX support that the 606 did not have. I would imagine that this would be the same with the x7's. Would the THX make that much of a difference and worth the extra cash? This receiver will be the last receiver I buy for some time...

I'm the player to be named later...

THX Select is just one feature the 706 has over the 606/607. I personally think features like extra power, multi-channel pre-amp out, RS-323 control, IR in, Zone2 trigger are more important.

I know what THX is, but I've never had a receiver that has it. Its more of a certification than anything else.

It sounds like you are shopping like I am. It's just speculation, but the 707 should be a 706, with the additional features that the 607 got (listed a few posts up).

Amazon Link, it also has some specs, though I dont know if they're accurate...

7.2 Surround Sound
HDMI: 1.3a, 5/1 + 1 front
100W/channel
Audyessy DSX, MultEQ
Burr-Brown audio DACs

Doesn't look too bad, I'm now debating between the 607 and 707.

Is it just me, or is the only new stuff in the 707 the increased number of HDMI ports?

So the 706 is back down to $599 on Amazon and I'm ready to bite. Is it worth waiting for the 707? I already had a refurb 706 and loved the sound, but it had some issues so it went back and I've been waiting for a new unit to get down to $600 to buy.

i will wait

i had a look at your homecinema, which is very nice - and saw that you have installed 2 high-front speakers for dolby IIz.
the onkyo 707 has DSX also and maybe you could write something about the two new systems.

I have already reviewd PLIIz and just need to get some more time in with DSX so I can do the same. I actually have the RC160 here now and will do a small take on it.

Here is a link from shoponkyo showing the 807.

http://shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?prod...il=1&ext_war=0

The new Onkyos look very promising especially the ability to stream music from your computer with the 807. I will look forward to the specs. on the 887.

Sounds good in theory but there are many "Offical" threads started such as the 886 and 885 threads as well as many others here letting people know these products will be available. These threads were started before the units were available but I found them to be very informative. I think the worst one is "The Official Sherwood Newcastle R-972.... thread started back in 10/08.

I found this spec sheet but i think it is only for Asia.
Check out the gold 707. here is the link.
http://www.intl.onkyo.com/products/a...707/index.html
I also found this on the 707 DAC.
http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm1690.pdf

But again this came from the asian site. Does anyone know if they will be the same?
