What kind of UPS do I need?

After losing my HDMI board two times in my Denon, I am thinking about using a UPS instead of just a surge protector.

I will have on it my cable box, lcd tv, dvd player and my denon receiver. HOwever in researching UPS, I am reading about Pure Sine UPS versus simulated sine UPS and I am confused.

Do I need Pure Sine UPS for my intended use?

Sincerely

Consider instead a whole house surge protector installed by an electrician on the outside of the house.

Apparently it does not address brown outs or other sources of surges such as through coax cables

Hello everyone.
Well, after a good solid 3+ years of running my 1910 receiver, I had a very odd thing start just in the past few days.

Real quick my setup: everything runs through my receiver (DVR, Blu-Ray...)

Now, for some odd reason, i started to hear this low muffled almost popping sound coming from my speakers (center channel, front left and right it seems.)
The really odd thing is, its very erratic. There are times it starts as soon as i turn on the TV or Blu-ray player. There are other times, it doesnt do it at all for a few hours. Or, im watching a movie, it starts out great, then there are short 'periods' where i hear the popping sound. At no point does the receiver ever shut off. Its very bizarre.

Any ideas?
My plan tomorrow is to take it down, unplug everything and give it a look over. The plan is to try and narrow down the issue.

Thanks for the help.

You may want to try a microprocessor reset and run Audyssey again as well.

Thanks jdsmoothie.

I did try it (googled how), but so far, no luck.
Think i will try it again as well as pull out the receiver and give it a look over.

Trying to figure out what it could be, but i am drawing a blank here.

Receiver potentially dying perhaps?

Thanks.

If you have more than just 3 speakers, try swapping them to see if the noise follows the speaker or the amp. Also, if you have lost the Owner's manual, you can download one from Denon's website ....

When new my -1910 had very loud pops and such. Finally fixed via Denon factory repair (think they replaced the HDMI board). If your problem turns out to be this, the cost of replacing that board would probably surpass getting a newer AVR.

Just discovered a new music mode on my 1910 by using the buttons behind the secret door on back of remote.

While switching from tv to music I hit the "music" button when I usually just Listen in 5 channel stereo. It gave me the mode of Dolby PL2 Music or DTS NEO Music.

I'm not familiar with these formats but glad to discover new capabilities on the receiver after 4 years of usage.
