hey there! I just bought a denon 1910, I read that it has HDMI to HDMI up-scaling, can someone please confirm?

Secondly, what does this mean? I have HD satillite which produces a 1080i picture over HDMI, will the Denon up-scale this to 1080p?

Your manual should explain what settings are allowed.

You should be able to confirm any upscaling by using your TV's status feature.

There's a lot of variables here, but more often that not you'll be better off letting your display de-interlace 1080i to 1080p. Not that the differences are huge.

Two things to know about scaling -

1) Even 1080p TVs won't display in 1080 if overscan is on. Which means the TV scales the image. So, unless your TV displays 1080 as 1080, don't scale (and some people would be annoyed by turning off overscan because lines might show up on the sides
2) If the TV does have 1:1 pixel mapping, then scaling to 1080 outside the TV is fine, but may not be an improvement

See the stickied AVR FAQ for more details on deinterlacing and scaling

ok... So right now if i choose size 2 (panny plasma) it "zooms out" and shows the entire picture, pixel 4 pixel. With some shows, there is a slim half inch or so black bar on either side, other shows have a tint over that area, some shows shows fill the entire screen perfectly. When a show completly fills the screen, it is great and i see alot more! unfortunately, lots of shows have small black bars = to the amount gained by size 2. If the denon scales this from 720/1080i to 1080p, will i no longer get these small black bars? If so, that would be amazing

I have a Panny, and use Size 2, to have true 1080 resolution. And yes, you will get those various unwanted lines.

As far as I know, you either accept annoying lines of non picture and take 1080, accept that the TV will downscale with size 1, or switch back and forth depending on source.

As mentioned above, I would rather my TV did not rescale the signal when it's 1080, so I use size 2.

It's really not complicated. You want one deinterlacing step done by your best deinterlacer for 480i or 1080i.

For all non 1080 sources, if you set your TV to size 2, use your best scaler. If you set to size 1, don't scale anywhere, let the TV scale. By best scaler, I mean scale your DVDs at your player, at your receiver or at your TV depending on which works best.

If you really care about all of this, I suggest buying a disc such as HQV which will give you some test material to make educated decisions with. That way, you can try out various options and see if they help.
