Hello,
I am just trying to set a decent surround sound system for my dorm, but I'm going to do it in stages (lack of funds) So i was hoping someone on here could reccomend a cheap (150-200 if thats possible) receiver, I would 7.1, but I seriously doubt I can afford that, so a 5.1 would be adequate especially in such a small room. If it had HDMI ports that would be awesome, but I dont know if there is such a thing in my price range. I checked out the cnet reviews but I really have no idea what i'm looking and what seperates a good enough receiver from a piece of you-know-what receiver. Any ideas or advice would be great...FYI, I have a 32" vizio, for a BD player Im looking at the Panasonic BD-60, but Im still looking for opinions on that as well, and I haven't even thought about what speakers to get. Thanks alot.

A Sony 820 is probably within your reach price wise. Lots and lots of features.

You will have to do some prudent googling to find a good deal on it.

A step up sound wise would probably be an H/K 247....

Refurb Harman Kardon AVR 247. These have gone as low as $150 delivered. Being sold on the bay direct from H.K.
