Finaly more info on the 4000 Br player. Was always hoping for a 4000 series when I bought my 3910. I think the 4810/4010 will be a great combo. Though the balanced outs on the A1ud might tip me towards it.

"Pure-Direct" is my friend
Now where is the "LIVE" button?

My guess is that to get certified to handle 1.4 doesn't take much more than 1.3 and they are just doing this to make the 4810 look future proof. Of course until there's some more 1.4 devices out there to test against it'll be hard to determine what 1.4 compatibility actually means.

fgutterman posed a good question. The 3310 and 2310 thread have confirmed that Denon did not implement PReP, edge and detail enhancement on the ABT2010 for the 3310 and 2310. Unless Denon explicitly states how the ABT2010 supports HDMI 1.4 video, we may be assuming that the capability exists. The announcement from ABT when Denon selected the chips, quotes the 2010 capabilities together with an acknowledgment that the video chip would be in Denon receivers in 2009. While they occur together, apparently they aren't related. Try and figure that one out

I've seen conflicting info.

Will this receiver have a built in WiFi?

I hope it will. They really need to start adding this feature to ALL HT equipment. If I can have WiFi abilities on a handheld, $200 satellite radio, there's no reason I shouldn't have it on a $3000 receiver or a $2000 Bluray player.

WiFi is mostly fine for streaming music etc but for firmware updates, hard wired connection is advisable as it may be possible to brick the unit with a troublesome WiFi connection. At least thats what Denon say about updating those units that have WiFi (AVP etc).
Edit: In other words, once the cable is in, its best to simply use that.

4308 has WiFi and likely this will have it too.

Denon suggests hardwire for firmware because of dropouts with WiFi. You can use it but there might be problems with updates.

As far as the UK is concerned, I spoke to SevenOaks yesterday and they said that there is nothing on their system about this unit as of yet and they could not take pre-orders yet, which I thought was unusual as the original ETA was supposed to be next month. Could be that we won't see it until later than we thought.

Australian release date in October with a RRP of $5999AU following the standard APA pricing model of making it an easy choice on whether to purchase from Singapore or not.

I'm also waiting for the 4810.... I think.
I'm very happy with the 4310 which replaced the 5308... I call that a backward upgrade
Not really an upgrade obviously but the 4310 is doing a good enough job that I decided to sell the 5308 at a decent price, almost what I paid for it, live with the 4310, which isn't hard to do, and check out the 4810 when it comes along.
What I'm really looking for in the 4810, or maybe something else, is a unit that will give me 5308 performance, sound quality, video processing, connectivity, etc..... with a few upgrades along the way, HDMI 1.4, updated GUI, DPLIIz, Audyssey DSX, etc.... all for less money then the previous generation flagship....

I think the unit you are after is the 5310! Actually I have done the same - come from the AVP. I want something smaller than what I have had, so going to sub/sat speakers and smaller amp. Bought a 3808A to stand in while waiting for the 4810. The 4810 seems a great amp and running 9 channels and multiple subs (with Audyssey for each) is something I'm looking forward to.

I have 3 questions Im hoping you friendly people can help with. I have an opportunity to pick up a AVCA1HD for a reasonable price -am I better off waiting for the 4810 to be released or is the AVCA1HD a far better purchase - even though it doesnt have some of the newer features ?

I know the AVCA1HD is their flagship and has more power than the 4810 - but if power output is not that much a concern - is there really any advantages to the AVCA1HD vs 4810 ?

Alternatively how do you think this compares to the Onkyo NR5007 /NR3007 ?

Thanks for the advice and assistance
Mat

Mat- If you don't mind me asking how much is a resonable price?

In comparison to the AVR-4810 you gain some and you lose some. You gain some new features that the AVC-A1HD doesn't have and you loose some quality parts that the AVC-A1HD has.

I can pick one up for about $6500 - so it is on par with the 4810(when it comes out) - I assume this is a reasonable price though ?
Thanks

Tough call. I expect the AVC-A1HD/AVR-5308 to be replaced next year maybe???

Personally, I think the 4810 will be a great balance between features, performance and price, and that is someone coming from the AVP/POA. I still think that partnering with the BDP-4010UD makes a killer combo.

Can someone explain what is meant by the wide sound (speaker) set-up with the 4810? I understand the high speaker configuration (DPLIIz) but I did not know about the wide sound stage capability. I don't think this is additional speakers is it? Do you use your normal R/L speakers in another set-up? Does it really make a significant difference? Do any other models support this?
Thanks.

I have always thought so and have had the 4802 and now the 4806, but thought the specs were too close to the 58XX series for Denon to have 2 similar THX ultra II units. I remember reading that the 4810 was spec'd to weigh considerably less and possibly not be "THX Ultra II certified." Does anyone know anything otherwise?
