what are the main differences between the Onkyos (3007/5007) and this one? The Onkyos add THX and use Reon and the Denon uses ABT. Another other big differences?

Perhaps Denon has more sub controls and more Audessey curves plus the installer ready version?

Yeah 11.1 (or 11.3). As I said perhaps the AVR-5311CI will be 11.3.

Speaker manufacturers must be delighted!

LOL! My girlfriend is very accepting of my hobbies, but I had the AVP and POA and a load of B&W 800 series speakers. I'm now going to lots of smaller on-wall speakers with subs and smaller amp she has sighed with relief!

Is it "final" or "clear" which version this AVR will be supporting??? Not that it matters too much for current equipment but it'd be nice to know if there is some "future proofing" in this unit or not.

If 1.3 for sure, then the title of this thread should be corrected.

Or, is it feasible that some of these features will be upgraded in future firmware releases (for a fee or not)? I have an "aging" (but still very capable) 4802 that the 4810 will likely replace so having any kind of protection as to feature sets is welcome.

duck, if i were eying this AVR, i'd kind of require 1.4 because 1.4 has 3-D implementation. i want my AVR to at least SWITCH for upcoming upgraded blu-ray players based on 3-D spec and HDTVs that will accept 1.4. otherwise, you'll need to buy a SEPARATE HDMI switch for 1.4 when THAT comes out. 1.4 isn't just a software thing, u'll need built-in HDCP chips to comply as well! HERE'S even MORE handshake problems! lol. y didn't the 1.4 spex exist in 1.0? =P no1 thinx that far ahead i guess.

i personally would have included all the way upto 16k, holographic and transporter technology already, even if we haven't use for it now .

Have you been given a release date for your Preorder? I still haven't seen anything official from Denon.

A Denon dealer here in Australia has mentioned an October release date.

good find! The first good photo of the rear panel I have seen.

Things I notice:

- Zone 2 component video output (something which was on the 4308CI but dropped on the 4310CI, again indicating this is the "true" replacement for 4308CI)

- a lot of binding posts -- I count FIFTEEN pairs of binding posts. The text is hard to make out, but I see dedicated binding posts for Zone 2 and Zone 3, which leaves 11 for Main Zone. There are the standard 5.1, a pair marked "height/wide", and I can't make out the other two.

The fact that one pair of binding posts appears to be marked "height/wide" does not bode well for being able to run heights+wides at the same time.

the ones that are hard to make out are labeled "Bi-wire/Bi-amp" and "S.Back/F.Height/F.Wide"

ooohhhh... thanks! that sounds very promising for the 5.1+wide+height setup, since two separate pairs of binding posts are labeled with "height" and "wide" as assignment options.

this is the first time I've seen separate binding posts for Zone 2/3 versus the "amp assign" surr.back posts. Perhaps the receiver will allow a "switching" feature a la Onkyo's, where you can have it switch to 5.1 config when powering Zone 2/3 (thus allowing you to not have to use the Zone 2/3 pre-outs just because you are running 7.1/9.1 in Main Zone).

thanks batpig for all the research =).

hopefully 4812CI will enable both height and width channels .

PS still no confirmation of 1.4 yet? i'd think that'd be min. requirement since 3-D is definitely coming and people would want to buy this today and keep it for @least 4-5 yrs =P

My undertanding is with the addition of a 2 channel power amp, the 4810 will run an 11.3 setup ...and it will switch amps on the fly for multi-zone

wow, I do count 14 pre-outs, that would be 11 channels + 3 subs! if it can actually do a TRUE 11-channel setup (with two extra amps) that will be a HUGE trump card for high end setups with those also considering the Onkyo 5007.

This part specifies 11.3 pre-outs. 7.3 normal and 4 for height and width.

This one looks pretty good. HDMI 1.4 would be nice, but even without it this amp can do everything I'll want for the near future. Granted I say that now...

*update* I just saw near the bottom of the page just above the pic of the remote it says HDMI 1.3a.

Looks good. No HDMI 1.4 no biggie. Would of liked to see THX approval but again so be it. My 4308 didn't have THX stamp and I love that so it looks like this could be the replacememt for it.

Keith:

Thanks for the bad news. Sadly, the HDMI 1.3A spec is a deal breaker for me.

I would have choosen the 4810 over the 3007 that I was planing to buy, due to the 4810's height AND width (at the same time) DSX capability.

I need 3D BD capability in order to spend $3K on a receiver, for I know that I'll want 3D BD in my HT ASAP.

A 3D BD setup will cost $$$$$ for a player, receiver, and a projector. I plan on purchasing one piece of gear at a time (I'm not rich).

If the 4810 had HDMI 1.4, and if it was compatible with the BDA's upcoming 3D BD format, I'd get on a preorder list for one ASAP.

It looks like my first piece of 3D gear will be the upcoming Panny or Sony 3D BD player.

Until then, I'll keep using my cheap Mag 530 BD player, and my ancient Denon 2307.

I haven't seen anything specific on this new 3D standard. Supposedly my LED DLP is supposed to support some sort of 3D, but it definitely doesn't support HDMI 1.4. Is this stuff even close to being widely available? Is the standard set? Will there be any receivers in the next few years supporting 1.4? Why can't 1.3 support it?

As it is I am able to get Denon products at a pretty good discount, so I think the 4810 will be a nice upgrade from my Onkyo TX-SR875. There's a few things in the Denon I'd like to get, and I'm hoping it'll run a lot cooler than the Onkyo.
