Hi Guys-

I just joined the forum and I'm looking for some help for setting up my comonents with an Onkyo SR-606 receiver. I will be setting up a Samsung LN55B650 LCD TV, PS3 and Dish Network VIP-722HD Receiver. I want to setup the system for the best sound and audio and I have two ideas for setting up below.

Option 1 - Hook everything up to Onkyo to get 5.1 sound
A. Connect HDMI out on PS3 and VIP 722 to HDMI in on SR-606
B. Connect HDMI out SR-606 to HDMI in on TV.

Option 2- Hook everthing up to TV and get sound out Receiver in 5.1
A. Connect HDMI out on PS3 and VIP 722 to HDMI in on TV
B. Connect HDMI in on TV to HDMI out on SR-606

I was told you get better video by going directly to TV but I'm not sure if sound will work. My compnents come tomorrw and I'm trying to figure out of Option 2 will work for connecting directly to TV and getting 5.1 out of speakers thru receiver.

Thanks

Unless you want to watch tv without having the 606 on for better sound use option #1. You will also get HD audio formats that some think is superior to optical or coax sound formats available.

You can use the pass through setting on the HDMI option in the 606 and it simply passes the signal without upscaling it. TVs generally do a better job of upscaling to their native resolution than AVRs do.

When all else fails - RTFM!

Thanks for quick reply. So you suggest using option 1 and setting pass through setting on the HDMI option in the 606 to get better video quality?
