It needs to

1. handle 4 ohm load

2. have pre-outs for later amplification

3. be able to pass hdmi signal untouched to the display

4. make a mean western style omelet.

So far my eyes are on a used Onkyo 805. I did have a seller nailed down but he never received my money order(thanks US mail!), and said he had to "move on". Audiogon had 3 of these onkyos recently but now that I'm back looking what do you know there isn't any except for a guy with no feedback and only accepts cash/check/money order, what's wrong with paypal?

Refurb Onkyo 706 is currently 499 plus they have a 10% off sale this week. So your final cost would be $449 shipped.

One refurb 805 on Amazon.com in your price range.

Also Marantz 5003 should do the trick

Marantz 7001 will work as long as you don't need the receiver to do HD audio decoding. If your BD player does it internally you'll be fine.

Thanks, it's really exhausting scouring the web trying to find receivers with these features, especially the 4-ohm load.

Try to find a Pioneer Elite SC05, may cost you an additional 100 bucks but at that price you would have one hell of a AVR that should last you for a very long time.

I've tried to find an sc-05 for less than $900 and it's a no-go. I've been told on multiple forums to buy an sc-05 in my price range but there just isn't any. Looks like the refurb 805 is the winner or the marantz 7001. I don't think those other two listed will run 4-ohm.
