Dynamic Vol does not work as well as THX Loudness. I have compared more receivers then most so I am very confident in my assumption. Batpig, as a Denon fan you seem to hang out in the Onk threads quite a bit.

And by the rest of us did you mean Denon owners who "only" have Dynamic Vol and not Thx Loudness to compare?

Batpigs alright. I was just giving him a hard time because he jumped in to defend denon with his "superior" comment. My Wife would slap him for that. She made me promise to never get another receiver without Thx Loudness. The differences were very noticable.

It's not Dynamic Volume, it's Dynamic EQ that is equivalent to THX Loudness.

Considering the "TH" in "THX" (Tom Holman) is the co-founder of Audyssey, I think it's fair to say the Audyssey version is built on the same ideas. The same theories which underpinned THX Loudness are the foundation for Dynamic EQ.

I was just poking fun though

Batpig, as a Denon fan you seem to hang out in the Onk threads quite a bit.

Am I not welcome 'round these here parts, Joe?

I'm just interested in A/V gear (you will also find me in threads for many other brands!), and the new Onkyos have a really awesome feature set for the price so I'm definitely interested in following along with the discussion and reviews.

I said NOTHING about Denon in my post. Onkyo has embraced Audyssey just as fully as Denon and my comments were not in any way brand-specific.

Trust me, it is worth the effort of putting them up.

I just purchased one 1007 too Totally blowing my budget but this is what made me decide since I too tend to keep things for at least 5 years or more if possible. I wanted to avoid the mistake I did this year by being a cheap basterd and getting the 606 (which is really good for what I paid, $299 at CC when they were closing out). It made a big improvement from my 504 So hopefully I wll be set for the next 5-7 years since now I still need to get the center speaker and 2 more speakers for the heights

You jumped in to defend the 4810. Is that not a denon product? Onkyo is going to win this year in sales hands down. Denon obviously has no confidnce considering hey didn't even have a booth this year.

Maybe they should have added THX?

Thanks, winston although that was not at all what I was trying to confirm. We already know this AVR does 9.1.

What I was curious about was if PL2z could add not only the new heights but if it also added the stereo rear surrounds (ala PL2x) in addition to the heights with just PL2z. Guess I'll find out on my own soon...

Yes, all audio inputs are assignable to unused hdmi inputs. what you're describing would work perfectly

fyi - really enjoying the 1007. for those considering marantz - my first sr6004 died after 8 days of use, now my replacement 6004 is having handshake issues. i might talk to my dealer about getting another 1007 to replace it in that setup! so underwhelmed by marantz's quality.

homank76,

Which experts are you referring to? (lol) There are a lot of helpful people who will be more than willing to offer you an opinion. I'm very fond of Burr Brown DACs so I may be a little biased towards them.

Plus not to mention hopefully the 4810 updates are smoother than the 4310s. I remember getting caught up on that 31 (or was it 29) minute mark for an eternity. Only powering off a dozen times got it functional again! so far any and all updates with the Onks have been a breeze.

joerod,

What is your current speaker set-up. I presently have a 7.1 setup and I was thinking of losing the rear surrounds and possibly adding Height and Width speakers. For me the rear surround speakers seem to add little to my surround sound experience. I'm still researching the pros and cons of Dolby Pro Logic IIz and Audyssey DSX. Also, I've heard THX Loudness and it is not on my list of required features.

I read in the 807 thread that there have been some problems with bad displays. Have there been any display issues with the 1007, or any other QC issues with the 1007's build?

I think there was one instance of a bad display - a guy bought it from newegg and had it replaced. I bought it open box for a song and will have it repaired when the new display arrives (in 2-3 weeks). According to my onkyo, it was an isolated occurrence. Who knows.

I'm guessing since the Onkyo's have both Audyssey and THX that they will have both Dynamic EQ and THX Loudness.... correct?
If so it will be kind of cool to compare the two.

It was only when one unfortunately childish interloper decided to poke his head in and take a cheapshot at me that things got a little hairy thankfully the mods deleted his nastier post so you missed out on his tripe

batpig.... thanks for the confirmation.
I ordered the 5007 from newegg yesterday, while it was on sale.
I was going back and forth between the 5007 and the Denon 4810.
The deciding factors came down to a few things,
On paper the 5007 is the winner, more HDMI inputs, THX Ultra2 Plus,
32 bit DACs, etc......... and
I could get it for about a grand less

I've been a Denon guy for quite a while now, 5805, 5308, 4310... and loved them all.......
so I'm a little nervous about the switch

I wouldn't worry the Onkyo will sure to please you, I have owned a few Denon's to, 3800, 4300, 5800, 3808ci and I found the 807 to be a great addition to my HT

Glad I stumbled on to this thread last night and ordered my TX-NR1007 last night before the price went up.

I've been looking at getting the 807, but for the same money I got the 1007. Awesome.

Now it's time for new front speakers. Looking at Polk high end 4 ohm bookshelves...

Thanks guys! You rock!
