Before you send it in for repair, it might be worth opening it up and trying to see what the damage is. It could be something simple like a disconnected wire or it could be something more difficult like a smashed component. If it's the former, you could possibly fix it yourself, or get a local TV repair shop to fix it. If it's a damaged component or circuit, you will probably have to send it back to Onkyo.

If you can't see any physical damage, then you'll need to send it in for repair I guess. It was worth a look just in case it was something simply. It could be more or less anything that has been damaged when it hit the ground - it will take someone with test tools and instruments to locate and fix it. Sorry.

I really wouldn't mess with it. It needs proper diagnosis and repair now.

Thought I'd share my experience with the NR1007. HDMI board finally gave out about a month ago. No network, none of the DSP/speaker icons lit on the left side of the display, etc. Before that the audio would drop out on occasion or while powering on. All the functions, OSD, etc that didn't require sound or the network seemed to work fine.

I E-mailed the Onkyo support people about the problem. Got a response the next day asking for more information: name, address, S/N, bill of sale. My receiver was just over 6 months out of warranty when I sent the mail. They generously gave me a one time extension of the warranty to get the unit repaired. Dropped it off at the service center they told me to use Monday. Got a call today (Thursday) that the HDMI board was bad, a replacement board had been requested Monday, and that the unit was now fixed and ready to be picked up. I was honestly expecting this process to take more than a week, not 3 business days excluding the 3 days spent sending/receiving emails.

After some of the horror stories I've read Onkyo has definitely improved their customer support tremendously. I really can't imagine this repair going any quicker than it did. Not to mention that it was out of warranty and they didn't have to do anything. On the other hand the HDMI board failures almost seem worthy of a product recall. Glad to have this thing back and working. TV speakers on a flat screen just don't quite sound the same!

I've had my onkyo 1007 paired with an XPA-5 for Over a year and love it. Just recently the XPAg-5 has been turning itself off when the 1007 source changes (like if comercials come on, or if I'm fast forwarding the DVR, or even muting the amp). The power button on the xpa-5 hblinks and the far right led blinks amber (sometimes 2 lights blink amber). I think it's a handshake issue between the twoor something? When my receiver switches modes for a different type of source is when it happens most (although not all the time). And it's never done this until just recently. How can I fix this, it's driving me crazy!!! It seems like the xpa is turning itself off because it doesn't like the signal coming from the 1007 (protecting itself). Any ideas?

If the xpa5 is an external amp, it sounds like one of your speaker cables is shorting out. Check connections on back of amp and at speakers.

Hi all,

I added a Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Blu-Ray Player to my Onkyo TX-NR1007.

When I use my analog sound input option (multich sound) does that bypass the Audyssey settings in the Onkyo? Does it bypass the surround sound settings (like THX etc.)?

Is there a way to minimize any video processing done by the Onkyo? I basically just want to pass through the Panasonic signal. If I connect the Panasonic directly to my TV it sounds like a remote control hassle...

Thanks in advance...

See the Onkyo manual. There is a key press combination that disables the VP on the Onkyo. The downside is that you lose all on screen information from the unit. I did this because the Onkyo's VP by Faroudja had a bug that basically on all implementations. While viewing 1080p24 content it would drop a frame roughly every 41s. That because the VP interpreted 24 frames/s literally. In reality it is slightly less so eventually the processing time was off enough to drop a frame. It's noticeable with fast pans and rolling credits.

Crap, NR1007 really starting to act up with huge delays in audio on first start of unit. Also problems with HDMI despite it being 'fixed' last Oct... Audio drops 1/2 sec during play back of CDs routinely, sometimes during DirecTv playback, we get minute delays.....

You could set up second zone.... but, I think second zone would accept only analog sources....

Just curious. How has your unit be functioning since the HDMI board repair? I just got a call today, after 5 weeks, that my unit was ready for pick up. I will admit that Onkyo stepped up and did a out of warranty HDMI board repair on my unit as well, without me even needing to argue. Im wondering how many have had these boards replaced only to have the problem resurface at a later time? It would suck to get only two more years out of the unit before this board goes bad as well.

I have a Sony BDP-s790 and can't get audio from the Sony, I have the following:

Epson projector 6010
Oppo 983H
Sony 790
Onkyo 1007

I have the Sony connected to the Epson 6010 using HDMI Video 1, and to the Onkyo HDMI 1 using HDMI Audio 2 in the Sony. I'm using the AV Separation Output Mode in the Sony to send video to the Epson and audio to the Onkyo. I have the Oppo connected to Onkyo HDMI 2. I have the Onkyo connected to the Epson using Epson's HDMI 2.

1) I can get audio from the sony if i disconnect the HDMI cable that goes from the Onkyo to the projector
2) I can also get audio from the sony if I change the settings on the Onkyo to output video from sub and not main output. Once I do this, I can no longer get video from the Oppo.

Any ideas on how I can make it work?

Thanks

I am controlling my Onkyo with iRule over IP. Just recently the Onkyo stopped responding to commands. I can ping the Onkyo, but just no command response. I went into Setup and verified that network control was still enabled. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Pull your power plug out of the back of the avr and let it reset completely. I have to do that with pandora sometimes.

Ive gotten a new arris pvr from shaw, all is well but i find during shows the listening mode clicks away more than it used to. Is there any way to tell the onkyo to not adjust the listening mode automatically? I think its doing it due to cable signal strength... Should i have shaw cable put a weaker filter in, clickin doesnt bother my wife but it drives me nuts lol
Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread! Mine worked fine for a couple years, then died a couple months ago! I called Onkyo, got a really good guy who offered to cover it out of warranty since this has been a big issue. It's now fixed and back home and working! Without this forum, I'd have probably threw it away and moved on!

Thanks!

How good is Onkyo with helping out when out of warranty? My unit purchased in early 2010 has started showing the dreaded no sound at power up problem.

Pretty bummed out, this was my first receiver I've ever purchased. I really was expecting this to last for than two and a half years.

I'd give it a try. I was quite a bit out of warranty and they helped me out! Can't hurt asking!
