I stream Pandora and it is awsome. I really was on the fence buying either the 9.9 or this unit, and this unit can stream internet radio....sounds great and easy to use, esp. if you have your TV on (so you can see what's playing and album artwork). Just set up your Pandora account with your computer and then add your stations...from there, the 40.1 sees all of those stations....

I am soooo close to ordering this - and streaming Pandora is really the main reason I haven't just ordered an 886 or 9.9. Might just end up flipping a coin
Sure I can get to Pandora via the PS3 but I really don't want to have another power hogging device on while listening to background music.

If you are not connected to the internet in order to upgrade firmware on this unit, does that mean you won't be able to ever upgrade? Has Intergra said anything about supplying a CD or can you download the firmware on to a CD and upgrade that way? This is the only hang-up right now blocking my purchase since I don't envision connecting to the internet. thanks.
Very easy actually - just use the internet browser and you're off. It's not a separate app but works well. Album artwork and everything you would normally see on you computer screen all right there on you're TV. You can even bookmark to make access quicker.
The only "issue" is I find the PS3 remote is worthless for using with the PS3's browser; the controller is MUCH better. The analog sticks work like a mouse where the remote doesn't really have anything comparable.

The manual doesn't mention any alternatives to update firmware.
If you have internet access via cat 5 cable it isn't too difficult to run a cat 5 cable to it long enough to update the firmware. Takes 15 minutes or less.

Thanks for the explanation. That's what I was afraid of. The only problem is that my cable modem is upstairs in my bedroom and my theater is in the basement. I guess I could enlarge the hole in the floor that my cable comes up through for the TV and modem and just run a long ethernet cable down to the unit. Can this be done by using wifi? I have an iMac with wifi but I'm not too technology minded when it comes to these things. Also I just read this in another review and if someone could explain it it would be greatly appreciated:
"Some minor limitation are the lack of 7.1 analog inputs (need to use HDMI for all multichannel sound input,) and the lack of 9.1 preamp outputs. One has only 7.2 outputs so one has to decide between either rear center speakers OR front height speakers but not both w this preamp."
I checked out a pic of the back of the unit and it has the multi-channel inputs so does this mean if I wanted to say connect my OPPO blu-ray player via them I couldn't? I'm confused again.

If you have cable in your HT, you could just temporarily move your modem into the basement. Or you could get a wifi repeater and put it into your rack.
I'm not quite sure it makes financial sense for the DHC 40.1 Don't get me wrong - I'm not a big fan of recievers, but in this case you are essentially getting an isolated version of the preamp section of the TX-NR807 (which is available for $769) so unless you can get this for approximately that price you would be better off getting the NR-807 / DTR 50.1. I personally would go for the TX-NR1007B for $300 more that adds Audyssey XT processing OSF calibration, and I don't think has an equivalent Integra receiver (the 70.1 is equal to the TX-NR3007). The onboard amp of the receiver can then supplement your current amp for those additional surround channels or for multizone.

There are no direct 8 channel inputs on the DHC 40.1. Maybe you are looking at the analog output channels for an amp?
Not having the direct inputs means all multi-channel audio will come into the 40.1 via HDMI or coax/optical. Unless you have a SACD or DVD-A collection this wouldn't be a limitation.
Other than for SACD and DVD-A you won't be missing anything. HDMI carries the latest HD audio formats. The 8 channel direct output on your Oppo are handy for AVR/AVPs that don't decode the latest HD audio formats. There are limitations with that too - no processing in the AVR/AVP for subwoofer EQ - its all managed in the Oppo and it is limited in it's settings.
Why is it SACD/DVD-A can't be formatted and played over HDMI? Or can it?

Good point - and I almost went for that solution - either the Onkyo 707 or the 807. But I've had AVRs used strictly in the prepro role before and didn't like the heat they give off even when the amp section isn't being used. The amp section 'idles' - giving off heat. Why a preamp cost another 25% or more than the corresponding AVR is a good question. I suppose there is the economy of scale to consider - and there are probably 20 AVRs made to 1 AVP - but that alone doesn't explain the higher cost.
Maybe with the UMC-1 coming to market some of the heavy hitters in AVRs will get into the AVP game - like HK Sony and others. If nothing else the prices may come down some.

Considering what the 3007 and the 40.1 street for, that should be the comparison used. And in that case the 3007 deliver a lot more features.
That said, I agree with Kuncklehead that I don't want to be idling that much power, so I would feel the need to go with the 3007 and no external amp. I could do that and then bi-amp the fronts no problem as I am only running 5.1.
So do I go with the 3007 or with the 40.1? I am really struggling with that one. If there was a 60.1 AVP with the features of the 3007 that split the price difference between the 40 and the 80, that's almost surely the route I would go.

wow. never even thought of that solution. see, that's why the people who are here at AVS are the best when it comes to technology,(everyone but me, of course.) thanks so much.
I've got a slight hum from my left side surround. My old lexicon didn't have this issue...wondering if it's the 40.1. Tried a different rca cable and it's doing the same thing.
As an edit, I would like to say that it does NOT affect my movie/music experience....just wondering if anyone else has this "issue".....

Well the in line ground loop suppressor worked in getting rid of my cable hum. However the jensen model was about 49.00 online. So I called the deadler that I purchased the unit from to see if I could get one quickly through them. The owner pointed me in the direction of LNL electronics in Syosset NY. He had it in stock & it Cost me $7.99, works like a charm.
I do have a few questions about issues I am Having.
#1 when I switch back and fourth from the blue ray input to cable (Both HDMI) the processor is not picking up the video from cable HDMI, but is picking up the audio. I do not get this problem from Blue Ray input. I will try switching wires tonight to take "Bad Wire???" out of the equation.
#2 why does the audio get approx. 10-15 decibels louder when I turn off the TV and then goes down 10-15 DB. when I turn it back on.
#3 Why can I not access audio functions such as Sub level, center level, night mode, re-eq or anything from the Audio button on the remote when I have it set for TV speakers on. Is there any way to pass the HDMI monitor out to TV without any video or Audio Processing???
I can't really help you out, but what I'm really wondering why this thread is always pushed to like page 7. I would like to know how many people actually own this unit (like me) and I'm surprised at the lack of popularity. This is a great unit (for the price) and I'm...just curious......maybe everyone is happy with theirs?

I have this unit and the Emotiva UMC-1 on my short list. I waiting to see how the UMC-1 pans out after the firmware upgrade before I make a decision to buy. I think a lot of people are doing the same thing. If the UMC turns out to be dud I think you may see this thread come alive...

I think the last line you wrote is telling...threads that are active with posts every few hours usually are because someone is having problems.
My 40.1 works flawlessly. Nothing to report!
As for Chemmchef, its probably the cable box - lots of users of all kinds of AVR/AVPs have problems with cable boxes. I use a sat box and have no problems with switching.

My exprience has been the same. Got the unit couple weeks ago, I had an onkyo before so setup was a breeze.Even those who have no experience with Onkyo/Integra should find setup to be a breeze. The update through internet went smoothly. Took me less then 10 minutes. The radio access through Pandora, pretty easy and sound is surprisingly good. Audessy caliberation took two runs to get satisfactory results for some reason. Now the kicker, I have never believed that upgrading to pre-pro would give me a lot of improvement, but I could hear the difference immdediately ( I upgraded from onkyo 705 + Rotel RB1080 + Rotel 1075). I am using pass through video becuse my JVC projector has reon chip. Extremely happy and I am glab I found this unit before plunking my money for a used 9.9. I think the network connectivity makes it no brainer to move to the new line on integras.
I have one issue though, when I watch cable and switch channles, i ocasionally hear some static before the sound comes on. Not sure what that is. I dont hear it on my ps3 etc.

That or people are having a heck of a time figuring out certain features.
