UPDATE: The cause of our ONKYO PR
-SC5507p pre-pro Internet Radio problem has been solved! (*NOTE: Solution probably also relates to Integra 80.1 pre-pro Internet Radio function as well as possibly the new ONKYO PR
-SC5508p and Integra 80.2 Internet Radio function as well)The cause of all of the Internet Radio problems that we were having was an IP Address Conflict.
This was the culprit behind our inability to use the ONKYO's Internet Radio function without serious problems (for details on the problem we were having see below). The solution to the problem: We assigned new STATIC IP Address outside of the DHCP Range.
This completely took care of ALL of the issues we had been having; no more audio distortion, no more audio sync problems, no more "clicking" or "popping" when the Internet radio is playing and the text now streams across the screen without any jerking or other issues.
Outline of the original problem that we were having with the Internet Radio feature:
About four months ago I hooked up our ONKYO 5507 to a LAN cable connected to our high speed Comcast broadband network for the first time and when I turned on the "Internet Radio" feature I noticed there was an audio distortion and "clicking"/"popping" problem, when music or audio was playing, however I was busy at the time and I did not have time to trouble shoot it. A few days later I tried to use the Internet Radio feature on the pre-pro again and experienced the exact same problem. I have tried using the "Internet Radio" function on the ONKYO 5507p numerous times since and have had the same results which makes the "Internet Radio" feature on this ONKYO 5507p totally useless. I am therefore sending this unit in for repair or replacement at the request of ONKYO.
Here is the problem: When the HDMI cable is connected from the Pre-pro to our SONY VPL-VW60 1080p projector, when I bring up a radio station on the ONKYO 5507p using the "Internet Radio" and the specific song (or talk radio station) completely buffers up and starts playing, as soon as the text scrolls across the screen and the seconds the song has been playing tick by or are counted, I am getting tremendous sound distortion and loud "clicking" or "popping": The text naming the song, does not scroll across the screen smoothly but it jerks forward and haltingly moves forward once a second as the seconds counting the length of the song, or the length of time the program is running. The sound goes out of sync and there is an audible "click" or "pop" every second in time with the timing counter and the moving forward of the text of the song. (*Note: ONLY THE VIDEO SIGNAL IS BEING SENT TO THE SONY VPL-VW60 1080P projector VIA THE 1.3a HDMI CABLE. NO AUDIO SIGNAL IS BEING SENT TO THE PROJECTOR from the ONKYO pre-pro AT ALL.)
However, when I leave the Internet radio on and the song is playing and the HDMI cable is still attached to the 5507p and the projector and I dump out of that "Internet Radio" screen by going to the ONKYO pre-pros menu "set up" screen (*Note: the Internet radio audio is still playing.) the sound distortion, along with the "clicking," and "popping" IMMEDIATELY goes away completely and the audio plays perfectly!
This also happens if I disconnect the HDMI cable that is connected to the SONY VPL-VW60 from either the 5507 pre-processor or from the projector. If I disconnect either end of the HDMI cable (from either the 5507 pre-processor or from the projector) and am still in the Internet Radio screen mode with the video of the song scrolling across the screen (only now you can no longer see the video information because the cable connection to the projector is disconnected) the audio distortion along with the clicking and popping IMMEDIATELY disappears, even though, I have not gone from the Internet radio screen to the ONKYO "Set Up" menu screen.
*Note, VERY IMPORTANT: There are audio distortion, audio sync issues and "clicking", "pops," once every second as the song information jerks forward and the timer clicks off the seconds EVEN IF THE PROJECTOR IS OFF/ON STAND BY OR IF THE PROJECTOR IS OFF AND ALL POWER IS TOTALLY REMOVED FROM THE PJ BUT THE HDMI CABLE IS STILL CONNECTED to the projector.
I also noted that if I go to ANY specific Internet Radio channel/station and open it up and begin to play the song, or listen to the news, ANYTHING; that screen with the moving text and the second counter is counting (Or the page has static text BUT the second counter is still counting every second) this screen ALWAYS distorts the Internet Radio audio. IF I leave any specific station playing anything (song or news/talk radio, it does not matter) the audio sync and distortion problems, along with clicking and popping sounds are ALWAYS there.
But, If I leave the song on/playing without stopping it and dump out of that screen to the ONKYO "Set Up" menu screen or dump out to the "My Stations" screen, with the song/sound still playing; ALL OF THE AUDIO PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEAR.
If the image on the screen is COMPLETELY STATIC/no movement at all, then there aren't ANY audio distortions, BUT as soon as the Internet Radio goes to a specific screen where TEXT is SCROLLING and the SECOND COUNTER is COUNTING THE SECONDS of a song, or just the SECOND COUNTER is COUNTING THE SECONDS, then I have distortion and audio problems WHETHER OR NOT THAT IMAGE IS VISIBLE ON THE SCREEN, BEING PROJECTED OR EVEN IF THE PROJECTOR IS TOTALLY OFF AND ALL POWER IS PREVENTED FROM REACHING THE PROJECTOR AT ALL AND NOTHING IS BEING PROJECTED ON THE SCREEN, I am still getting the same audio distortion!
BUT if I DISCONNECT the 1.3a HDMI cable from either the projector or the ONKYO pre-pro, even if the Internet radio is on a specific station playing a song and the text is scrolling and the counter is counting (but you can no longer see it because the HDMI cable has been disconnected from the ONKYO 5507 or from the projector), then the audio distortion, popping, clicking, audio sync problems IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEARS! Does this indicate a problem with the ONKYO's VIDEO PROCESSOR?
I tried switching the HDMI cable connected to the ONKYO 5507p to the secondary HDMI out connection and made it the primary VIDEO out with the same result: audio distortion when using the Internet Radio function when the HDMI cable was connected to the to the projector.
This is VERY IMPORTANT: As soon as I move to the ONKYO "set up" screen the audio problems IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEAR even though the projector is on and connected to the Pre-Pro by the HDMI Cable.
I am only having a problem when the "Internet Radio" feature on the ONKYO is used.
*Note: I am not sending any audio signal to the projector from the ONKYO pre-pro, the only HDMI signal going to the projector through the 35 foot HDMI cable is the VIDEO SIGNAL.
I have played CD's, Blu-rays, DVD's, cable television and EVERYTHING ELSE with the projector on and connected to the ONKYO 5507 pre-pro, and everything: the audio and video works perfectly without a single problem.
So the ONKYO PR
-SC5507p works fine for everything else except for the "Internet Radio" function.*Note: if you are experiencing any of these problems with the Internet Radio function on your ONKYO or Integra pre-pro this is probably the cause and the solution:
