I just helped my mom buy a new TV for her home, which was comparatively easy (in my opinion.) It's a Panasonic TC-P50S1. The thing is that the built-in speakers are pretty bad. So I thought I could giver her my old stereo system to hook up to her TV, which would likely be better than what comes with the TV. The link is here: crutchfield.com/S-TgeL8T7Z5Cr/p_158MHCRG40/Sony-MHC-RG40.html?tp=209&tab=detailed_info.

The S1's don't come with analog out which is what the system has. So I was thinking of reusing the speakers and buying a receiver for her. Besides, the middle part is way too big nowadays.

If this is possible, I'm only looking for a few basic things:
Decent price. I'm not looking for anything fantastic (I think). I'm not schooled in the way of receivers so forgive me here. I need 1 component input (2 would be nice), 3 hdmi inputs with audio passthrough, support for up to 5.1 speakers, and the BD high-def audio format(s) support.

some receivers to review that meet your spec's

Denon AVR-590
Yamaha V465
Onkyo SR607 (can get a factory refurb from this authorized dealer www.accessories4less.com)
Pioneer 819

what is the programming source for the TV ? cable, satellite, over-the-air antenna ? If its cable or satellite, the audio feed from the cable/sat box would be the input to the receiver.

Thanks m_,

I've lulled over your list and I'm partial to the Denon.

FYI, I only have SD satellite at 480i.

Also, since I linked those speakers, could you tell me if there's anything I need to know about them? (Assume I know nothing other than connecting A to B).

I'd ask in the speaker forum for advice on speakers. But they are pretty straight forward to hook up typically.
