Hi all,

Came across a Denon two channel rig recently. It's a PRA-1500 preamp, POA-2800 amp and TU-280 tuner. The research I've done says the amp is a beast at 200wpc, and weighs almost 50 lbs. The preamp is supposed to have a nice phono section. This gear appears to be fairly (relatively of course) modern, being made in the 90's. The only problem is a weak output channel in the preamp. I saw a PRA-1500 preamp go for about $150 on eBay recently.

Does anyone know much about this setup? Is the preamp worth repairing, should I try to find another one, or just sell the amp and tuner? The amp sounds great using a different preamp. Nice and clear with lots of power reserves. It also looks a lot like the current Denon AVR's, so it might be a good upgrade for someone's Denon AVR's front channels.

Any experience would be appreciated.

I'm finding that I'm smarter than I thought, but dumber than I need to be.
