Well, I'm fixin' to change that as my unit just arrived and I am going to have lots of questions. (Assuming it surrived the static shock it received from me when I removed the unit from the plastic bag it was in.)

First question: what is the easiest way to remove the "windows 7 compatible" sticker from the front door?

One question before I buy new cables. Are the XLR pre out connectors male or female on the 5507?

The connectors will need to be female for the 5507. Most amps will need male connectors. So you should order female/male XLR cables. Monoprice and Bluejeans both have excellent quality XLR cables.

Emotiva has a nice sale on their cables right now with free shipping. I purchased a set of seven XLR cables from them. As soon as they arrive I will fire up the 5507.

I was looking at XLRs too. Although a frequent Bluejeans customer, I ended up buying from "heels-6" on ebay. He was able to put a custom job together for me at a reasonable (competitive with BJ) price. Here's anexample.

We purchased a full set of the Emotiva XLR cables and have had them for three weeks. EXCEPTIONAL build quality (SOLID BRASS CONNECTORS WITH THICK GOLD COVERING.) The pictures on their web site do not do these cables justice. They also sound wonderfull with our 5507 and Parasound Halo A51 and A23 power amps. Great investment and for our needs the 1 meter cables were plenty long enough.

Mine will get here on Tuesday - can't wait. I am going from the 5507 to an Outlaw Audio 7700 (7 x 200W).

How on earth would anyone use up all of those HDMI inputs on the 5507? I am only using one - HDMI from my Oppo 83. I can see using two if you have a HDMI from the satellite box. (I have my satellite box going directly to the TV via HDMI, and I use an optical connection to the 5507 from the sat box for when I want to run the TV audio through the stereo.)

Did you guys register your 5507 on Onkyousa.com? Also, how did you find firmware updates? There is nothing on Onkyopro.com mentioning that.

My microphone lead is too short to reach all the 8 positions i would like to run Audyssey for. Any idea if i use a simple cable extension (mini jack) if it would skew the results? Thanks

Yes, you can use a extension cable with the calibration microphone if you need to.

jmouse - you are not kidding - those emotiva xlr cables are very nice. Did you use those color-coded o-rings? Is it really necessary to have a unique color for each channel? The onkyo is only a few feet above the amp in my rack and it really isn't that difficult to trace each cable.

For sure I have had mine for a while and very very nice IMO good value. I bought the HDMI's as well and same impression

If I had it to do all over again, I'd still hit that shot.

I used the little colored rings, on both my LXR cables AND on ALL of my new speaker wire Nakamichi Banana Plugs. I put the same color on the positive and negative speaker cable. The Red and Black on the Nakamichi plugs let me know which same-channel plug was positive and negative. (Outstanding HIGH-END banana plugs by the way that look better than the photos and made a genuine sonic difference/imporvement that my wife even noticed the first time we listened to our AV set up after we had installed them. And the guy is an honest Ebay seller; If you are interested tell him Jmouse007 referred you to him):

http://cgi.ebay.com/28-Nakamichi-BFA...item518dc0d798

I found using the unique colored rings for each individual channel makes life VERY EASY. As was said earlier... it is all about wire management. The biggest issue I had was writing up a 5X8 card with all of the individual channels listed on it and deciding WHICH COLOR I wanted to use for each individual channel and writing it down. Once that was done, the rest was a snap. Everything is color coordinated. I would advise you to use them.

New firmware update for the 5507. Credit to AVS member rickardl. I stumbled across it looking at some other Onkyo firmware updates.

A firmware update for the PR-SC5507 network controller is available through unit’s network connection or USB input. The latest update includes the following content:

As of 22 December 2009
• Improves the functionality of automatic speaker-setup in Bi-amp mode or when a passive subwoofer is connected;
• Stabilizes circuit operation immediately after power is turned on (thereby avoiding problems of no sound output);
• Improves on-screen display menus.

As of 19 November 2009
• Improves the display of Chinese menus.

As of 28 October 2009
• Improves picture quality for iPod/iPhone through the UP-A1 Dock for the iPod;
• Enhances the operability of internet radio.

I wonder if this update addresses the relay clicking mentioned by several 5507/80.1 owners when audio formats are changed (channel changes or FF of a DVR/Tivo)?

Everything arrived yesterday; Onkyo,amp,4 new speakers and mounts. It took me 6 hours to run wires,mount speakers, hook up ,test everything and cleanup! I finished at midnight. I havent done Audessy yet, only volume calibration, but the improvement in sound quality is glaringly obvious. I'll probably do the Audessy tonight after work. At 10pm last night I was really wondering if it was worth all the effort, but when I heard it the first time I knew that it was.

I do have one question:
This is the first unit I've had that will scale video from HDMI connections and I'm not sure what the best settings are. For instance for those of you with Directtv or Comcast HD DVRs, what are your settings for DVR and 5507 ?
Thanks!

Bill

It took about 1/2 hour to upgrade.
There is no change to the clicking behaviour.
Multiple clicks when FF in TiVo.

Clicks each time the sound format changes.

I do not think FW will fix it.
