It's about time that we had a Krell owners forum here on AVS!

We've got to let the rest of the clan know what they are missing out on. As well we can talk about one of our favorite brands and share information with each other.

My system is not "high end" in the context of the High End, but consists of: Krell KAV-300iL, Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SE, Arcam FMJ CD32, Pioneer BDP-51 and a Dual CS-431 Turntable, with all cables from ZU Audio.

Come on let's share the wealth!

speavler, thanks for the reply. Hopefully we can get more responses from other whom own Krell or are just interested in learning more about them.

I just missed out on a Krell KAV 500i on Audiogon it sold for $1250.00. I just wanted to try that monster out. I will probably move to a KAV-280p/2250 combo when funds permit. That should make for a pretty solid upgrade over the 300iL/400xi.

It sounds like you have a pretty nice system there. What kind of speakers are you powering with the Krells?

Hey all - been scoping out Krell as an integrated amp in my rig for 2-channel music listening in a hybrid configuration so that the int amp drives my fronts for HT.

Does the KAV-400 support "HT Bypass" on one of its inputs?

I check the Krell site, but I couldn't find the manual for the 400.

Thanks,
Erik

I no longer own a Krell 300iL

Instead I now have a almost brand new Krell KAV 400xi finished in stunning black! It seems to sound the same but it is really beautiful in black. As a bonus the gentleman that I bought it from sent it with a new Krell EVO 202/222 solid metal remote control. If you have not handled one of these remotes it is difficult to quantify how nicely that are put together and how well they work.

I have noticed differences in the way the 300iL is finished vs. the 400xi though. I believe that the finish work of the 300iL is nicer. The vents on the top plate of the 300iL are slightly inset instead of flush and the remote control of the 300iL was metal while that of the 400xi is plastic though they both look identical. The 400xi has much better binding posts (WBTs) compared with the 300iLs rather generic set.

I am very happy with my second Krell purchase and will buy more Krell in the future. My next piece will probably be a KAV-280cd CD player.

Hey there Krell lovers! Im searching for a used KAV 400xi to match my 280cd player. Recently I found a Kav 300il in mint condition. Looks like new. Can you tell me are there any significant sonic differences between these two? I heard opinions that 400xi is much better than 300il. They look the same to me.

This is just plain sad. Why doesn't Krell have any fans? Somebody's buying their amps..

Why can't we list equipment in our signature? How odd...

Try posting in the over 20K forum. Krell however is now not owned by the founder and many krell lovers are looking at Dan's new company for their ultra high end needs.

I have this system:

Krell FPB 350mcx and KCT bought used.

Benchmark DAC, MartinLogan reQuest speakers.

The sound is unambiguous.

I'll be back later...

I bought a used Krell HTS 7.1 preamp/processor.  I use it with an OPPO blu-ray disc player (BDP-83).  The sound is magnificent.  Because there is no HDMI option on the Krell (older technology) each of the 7 outputs from the OPPO need to use individual audio cables.  That works for DVDs except when the movie is coded for 5.1.  In that case the side speakers don't play.  My issue is that 2 channel stereo CDs only play on the 2 front speakers in that configuration.  I'd like to have virtual stereo in that case so that 3 speakers play the left channel, 3 on the right.  Any suggestions?

Anyone here using Krell amp(s) to drive Gallo Ref 3.1's. I just purchased a new Krell s300i integrated that should be here by Sept. 2nd or 3rd and wanted to hear your impressions.
