I am thinking about buying two XPA-5's and an XPA-2 to run an 11.1 system. I currently run a 9.1 system (with 4 surrounds and 2 front wides) and use a Denon AVR-4810CI to drive the 9 speakers plus one sub. The AVR can handle 11 pre-out channels plus 3 subs, but it only has actual 9 amp channels rated at 140w each. So I need an extra two amp channels to go to my desired 11.1 system with the two more front height speakers that I plan to add. So rather than just buying a 2-ch amp for the extra two channels that I need, and continue to use existing receiver's 9 amp channels, I want to power all 11 channels through separate amp units and run my AVR as a pre/pro for now and eventually replace that with a real pre/pro when I can afford it. My speakers are all Paradigm Reference Studio series. I use 100's for the front mains, 60's for the wides, cc-690 for the center, 4 adp-590 surrounds and a servo-15 sub. (I have not bought the front height speakers yet, but they will definitely be Paradigm too when I do.)
So anyway, I have two questions...
1. will using the Emotiva amps do my system justice? That is, will I hear that much improvement over the 140w channels of my Denon?
2. how current are the Emotiva amps? Are they likely to be upgraded to new models any time soon? I'd hate to fork out $2600 on these three amps only to find out that new models are coming out.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer any advice.
