Have had a hard time making the amp even get warm, but I pushed pretty hard on Into the Storm and the last 20 mins is pretty action packed with regards to active audio. Left and right channels got warm, but the middle channel for the center was still pretty cool. I'd expect the two front towers to be more power intensive.

Impressed so far with the amp sound and performance, especially when you consider what they sell for.

^Yah the bang for the buck is huge. I'm a couple years in on my XPA and it has been a champ.

I also have a hard time making my XPA5 more than barely warm. At -10 on the volume it starts to get barely warm. At -15 it laughs at my efforts!

An amp that laughs and asks for more is my kind of amp. 🎄👍🎄

Have a rather odd question, perhaps; anybody know if the original feet underneath the XPA-5 are removable?

Most electronics feet are easily screwed off, but these I don't know? Reason I ask is because an installation may require the use of separate (better quality) isolation/resonance feet (Finite Elemente Ceraball) which would be placed underneath the chassis.

| NAD M17 (a/v processor & DAC)
| NAD M27 (multichannel poweramp)
KEN KREISEL Q125 / DXD-12012 (5.1 speaker system)
OPPO BDP-103D (blu-ray player)
NAIM UNITISERVE (HDD musicserver)

I just noticed that I've got the same Oppo, Denon and Hsu products that you have, we have good taste! I won't rain on your parade, I didn't have good results with the XPA-3, but it was in a 2 channel system and drove Paradigm Sig S6's with Beryllium tweeters. They are incredibly resolving but can get forward sounding highs in some cases. The XPA-3 did not shine in that system, but it's a real workhorse and for the money I don't believe one can do any better in a 3 channel amp.

Sounds like a question for Emotiva tech support: 1.615.790.6754 or 1.877.EMO.TECH 1.877.366.8324 or

What have you been spinning? Trying to talk the Mrs. into Pacific Rim, but no luck yet.

BTW, ain't you got a little football game coming up? Should be a great day of football tomorrow. Good luck!

Ninja Turtles was a blast for all the audio (lfe was good).

Also watched Guardians of the Galaxy cranked.

Yeah, tomorrow will be a stressful day. I am of course a Nole, and the wife is a Bammer, both big time college fans. Should be fun!

Hopefully you both have two games left this year. Cheering in the championship game could be a little awkward though.

We just watched GOTG and thought it was fantastic, and a nice workout for the surround.

I have faith that Jameis will secure the win, but the game will be close. My Aggies didn't amount to anything this year, so I'm rooting for Florida State to win it again. Going to be playing on my XPA-5 tomorrow!

Just as a college football fan (my team already played and lost in a crappy little bowl game), I am pulling hard for a FSU Bama national championship game. I think that would be huge. Two big programs. Two great coaches.

The only thing that makes me nervous about it is Gadget and the Mrs. rooting for opposite teams.

Definitely some great coaching minds involved this year. I'm thinking they should expand to an 8 team playoff. TCU and Baylor weren't robbed by not making it into the final 4, but they definitely deserved a chance to contend for the title. TCU's peroformance today convinced me of that.

Favorable matchup for the Horned Frogs today, but they were on a mission.

LOL, we can watch in separate rooms!

I'm not looking past Oregon, FSU has more talent but we need the D to have a good game. Luckily we have had 3 weeks of rest to get a lot of players healthy, this is the most healthy they have been since Ok St. Ol Urban may give Bama a hard time, bowls have favored the underdog so far, which is why I am find being a 9 pt dog to the Ducks. If the Noles lose, can't be anything but happy with two undefeated seasons and a 29-0 run.

It has been an unbelievable run, and has done Tallahassee and the ACC proud. The way those wins have come is the most startling part of it. Playing from behind and consistently -- no, constantly -- finding ways to win. I can think of a half a dozen games where I thought the goose was cooked, and they just get to a point in the second half where it's go time, and boom, off they go. Even when hurt, even when things weren't going good, taking the other teams best shots, and on hostile fields. It has been really impressive to me.

And you're right, even if they lose tonight, it's been a fantastic run. But to cap it off with two more wins, and beating what has been the premiere team in college football for the better part of a decade before this run -- Bama -- would be quite an exclamation point.

We've been totally off topic and need to knock it off, so power up your XPA's and enjoy our first ever college football playoff games. January Madness. Should be a blast!

If I am using a Pioneer LX-72(Asia version of the SC-25) as preamp., what kind of interconnect would be best to link it up with my new XPA-5 Gen. 2 ?

Thanks in advance for the input !!!

The XRCA's from Emotiva are nice, if you havent already ordered the amp. I ordered min together.

I also had some made to length from Blue Jeans Cable in the past, very nice. Still using that brand for my two subs.

I use the Emotiva XRCA's too. Well made and well insulated, zero noise. Like most of us, there's no XLR / balanced option on your receiver.

Just hooked up my new XPA-5 G2 to Denon X-4000 and I am in heaven again. I had downsized from a UPA7/HK RCVR Klipsch RF7 a few years ago due to life changes and now I'm back. Love this amp! Clean, quiet, detailed, powerful, excellent channel separation what more can I say. Much bigger/better difference compared to when I added the UPA7 to my old system.
Cheers

Cable for XPA-5

Noted with thanks. Unfortunately, the amp. was already shipped to me in Hong Kong 3 weeks ago n did not order the factory cable at the time.

However, some friend here recommend the 'Gotham 11001' cable to me , which is a Swiss brand microphone cable. Wonder if anybody heard about this brand in U.S. ?

IIRC that brand is nice. Looks like it is around $2.60 US per meter. Blue Jeans Cable is about double that, so it'd be worth a try.

I don't really have anything to compare it to, but my XPA-5 has been great. There is an audible hum when no content is playing, but my ear needs to be inside of 12" and at no volume, so who cares. I also have to echo the heat generation...this thing is cool as a cucumber. I watched GOTG at -10db and it was luke warm afterwords.

Definitely getting another Emotiva for my zone 2.

I notice a hiss as soon as my XPA-3 finishes startup (blinking thru led sequence), but it is quick and then goes quiet. It is like an audible hiss thru speakers right at the end of startup.

Do not hear anything after that, so I assume it has something to do with the startup sequence.

ac388,
I'm thinking of getting a pair of XPA5 and having them shipped to Hong Kong. Can you advise what the shipping costs were for your unit?

Wow, it is much cheaper in U.S. then, since they are about U$4.60/M raw here.

Quick question on the space requirement around the XPA5. How much head space is needed for cooling requirements? Is 1" sufficient? Or does it need more like 3"? What about at the sides of the XPA5? How much space is needed for the unit?

I can't find any minimum distance around the XPA5 needed for cooling in the owner's manual, other than the standard clause given in page 3.
