I pre-ordered the 1120 from Amazon and no ETA on shipdate.

*The Onkyo 608s are looking to be shipping in May so I hope Pio get's theirs out first! =D

I don't know, but am guessing it extends the graphic iPhone control interface to a PC. I hope an 1120 manual turns up soon.

Any word on the 1020 or 1120 having an volume OSD for non-pioneer elite displays? It is the only reason I waited on the 21txh.

Is the 1120 replacing the 9040 and the 21? Or we won't know for sure until they announce the 2010 Elite AVR's in a couple months?

Between Anchor Bay and Marvell, I'm excited about the video processors in these new units. I've heard great things about Anchor Bay chips, but has anyone ever seen the Marbell Qdeo in action? Being previously only reserved for their $7,000 Elite 09 flagship, I was surprised to see Pioneer put it in a unit that is 1/10th the price. Of course, implementation is everything with these chips, but I'm looking forward to seeing how well they do.

Unsure based on this image but one would assume that all the features remain as you go up the price ladder.

http://gizmodo.com/5485322/pioneers-...phone#comments

I'm actually considering moving down to the 1020, the RS232/PQLS/PC control features don't seem to be of any importance to me (to be honest I cannot find anything on what the PC control actually is/does). The only difference I can see that would be critical is the obvious differences in chipsets; I'm assuming the Anchor Bay chipset in the 1020 doesn't do 24fps?

I'm not worried about wattage but the Onkyo 608 doesn't have any pre outs and I will be hooking this up to my 7.1 (using 5.1) Outlaw 7700 o rI would have probably gone with that.

^^^

the implementation of the marvell processing is very good in the sc-09... it would have been nicer if they had turned all the "toys" on, but as far as scaling and de-interlacing goes, no complaints here... my personal comparisons show that it's significantly better than the processing in the 150fd, and essentially similar to that of the dvdo edge (which uses the abt chip)...

it remains to be seen what flavor of marvell chip they are using in the new unit, but i would expect that the processing wouldn't suck...

side note: it needs to be noted that "significant" in the first paragraph is in the eyes of the beholder... for most viewers in most applications, they really are unlikely to notice the difference... which translates to, don't expect an "OMG!!" moment when you hook it up...

Pioneer's Amazon write up says,

On-Screen GUI, PC Control, and RS-232 Support Provide Even More Control Options
"There are more ways to control your Pioneer VSX-1120-K than just your iPhone. There's a full-color on-screen GUI for use with the included preset remote, and PC control capability so you can use your Mac or PC to adjust settings when your receiver is connected to your home network via Ethernet. For full-on home theater automation, the VSX-1120-K supports RS-232 systems such as Control4® and Crestron®. So you can control your Pioneer home theater anywhere, from the whole house to the palm of your hand."

Hopefully the on-screen GUI (and volume) is displayed over any HDMI source (I remember getting the GUI to appear over Component Video was a big deal). My current Sony STR-DG920 receiver can't display a HDMI source and GUI at the same time but has no problem showing the GUI over Component or Composite Video (including volume) that's output to HDMI (just not HDMI sources). The Pioneer does have HDMI-to-HDMI upconversion so there is hope (something else my current receiver can't do).

I've read somewhere too that you can get "reports/stats" about the receiver along with what's mentioned above. What these "reports/stats" will have in them and if they are real remains to be seen.

The RS-232C interface is the standard custom installers use to create special control schemes for integrated devices. The only thing special here is having it in a receiver at this price point.

There's that then. I guess I forgot as I know I went to the 608 first then to the equally priced Pio, so I must have one up'd to get preouts

If it did, I would have gotten that one I feel, the PC control doesn't sound all that spectacular on paper. Besides my gear is only 9 feet away, using my laptop or in place of my remote seems odd (same for iphone).

Has anyone found of if the 1120 has a pass thru function on the video scaling similar to the 608? I'm kind of tossed between the two right now, LOVE the price of the 608, and the pass thru option. Not sure about the 2 EQ from Audyssey though. I need to look into what the 1120 MCACC offers still.

I would bet on it. Knowing Pioneer, I don't think they would release a product that didn't have pass-through capabilities. They are such a stickler for video purity and quality (one of the things I love about them).

HDMI pass-through while in standby state would be useful.

No pre-outs, except of course for the sub.

While the 1018, what I currently own, has pre-outs, they disappeared from the 1019 (the '19 series entirely). So now Pioneer has added them back with to a non-Elite model with the '20s, but only at the very top of the range.

called pioneer after striking out with a release date from folks at large retailers. no word on this player's release. a few pre-orders have popped up on ebay stating it will be out in mid april. while denon and onkyo have yet to release details on their mid-ranged units, this seems like an early favorite.

And they still forgot to put the heavy weight amps back into the 1020.

I have a theory (with practically no evidence) that Pioneer is waiting for Anchor Bay to deliver video processing chips compatible with HDMI 1.4a, and that might delay the receivers that use the Anchor Bay chip. HDMI 1.4a wasn't promulgated until early this year, and when I look on the Anchor Bay web site, I see no mention of HDMI 1.4 products, only HDMI 1.3 stuff.

It says "Improved automatic speaker calibration"... what are the changes?? finally pioneer learned to EQ LFE? That would be the only significant upgrade I can see.

I can handle that. I actually thought the Elites might be closer to September, but June/July will give me a chance to compare the lines before I make a final choice. (Specifically the low-end Elites vs. the 1120...curious where they'll make the distinctions.)

Interesting - the third post in this thread has a link to an audio interview with Dave Bales of Pioneer. At about the 24 minute mark he talks about expected release dates for the line - 1020 late April/May and 1120 late June/July.

I think the theory of abt and 1.4 finalization has some credibility...probably why we have not heard much re denon

VSX-1120-K

Anybody else notice that in the preouts section the extra preout set for Dolby height and the speaker posts say /FW (and /front wide in speaker posts area). To my knowledge Dolby didn't add wides in their IIz spec, could the 1120k also be using Audyssey DSX? And if it is, could one of the upcoming elites possibly have the full 11 channel processing like the Denon 4810. I can't wait to see those elites.

The Denon AVR I've been living with this past decade has treated me well, but these two receivers are convincing me that it's finally time to upgrade. Both the 1020 and 1120 have a component, composite and HDMI monitor out. Both also have a composite video out for zone 2. Couple of questions:

--Will all three monitor outs display the primary video source simultaneously and thus be able to send video to three monitors at once?

--Any chance the component out can display a seperate HD video source to what's being displayed with the HDMI out? I'm guessing the answer is no, but it's a bummer that the second video source will only be output on composite.

--What price range does one need to step up to get two discreet HD video sources displayed simultaneously?

--For the composite zone 2 video out on these, does it down-convert HD to SD, or will it only display SD sources?

--What happened to S-Video? I know it's an outdated standard, but I do have one or two pieces of electronics where it's the highest res output (e.g., SVHS).

Thanks in advance for the help.

The wides are neither Dolby nor Audyssey, but Pioneer's own implementation.
