VSX-1020 receiver stuck on PCM setting when using PS4

I have had this unit for several years, but I'm having a recent issue since I have acquired a new roommate. I've noticed that when using my PS4 recently, I cannot change from the "PCM" setting when I press the "Standard" button on the front of the VSX-1020 receiver. In the past I could. When I switch to my DirecTV receiver, I can switch through the settings normally when pressing "Standard". In the past, I have typically used Neural Surround. I think she has accidentally changed something recently, but I do not know what it is.

Any thoughts?

I have a vsx 1121 and a GTS 250 video card in my desktop-similar but not exactly the same.I assume you are saying that you cannot get Dolby Digital or anything better over hdmi.If so-I feel your pain. After much research I found that the card did not support DD over hdmi and Nividia had no plans for an update.I assume it was either a DRM or licensing issue. In any case I then ran a separate optical cable.Matching that input up to the hdmi was a chore but luckily I found a post on AVS that pointed the way.
Now I have a roku box and plex so I don't have to use that set up as much.
I would like to know if newer cards support DD and better over hdmi.Anyone know?

Although the impedance was correct for a good part as shown above. I just disconnected the posistor from the heat shield and re-positioned in the area behind the vertical board the shield is attached too. A couple wire ties to suspend it in mid air and the problem is fixed. Though safety is a concern, In the future I will never operate this amp unattended.

I just got an Amazon echo. It seems to me since my AVR is on my network, and I have apps that do basic Pioneer controlling, that there should be an Echo Skill for my 1020k. Does anybody know of any progress there?

The 1020 is a pretty primitive receiver compared to what is coming out these days, it doesn't do dlna. The pioneer app is primitive too, relegated to certain years. I'd be amazed if you could control it with Echo.

While I agree with all your comments, I respectfully disagree with your conclusion. I'm not a developer but it seems all the ingredients are there for Echo to learn the skill, much like the app does.

Yeah, but who would do that for a 5 year old receiver? They aren't even pioneer anymore, onkyo owns them. The pioneer remote sucks, but Alexa often mishears me. I think the better question is why can't alexa play to a bt receiver, which the 1020 is not? What would you want to say to the receiver beyond turn on/off switch input?

I hear you. Well I have no issues with my 1020k and 7.1 system. Maybe I'm missing something I don't know about. I'd just want "Alexa Make Pioneer" "louder, lower, switch input, off/on"

I guess for that to happen, Echo would need to have a map of the network and the receiver manufacturers would have to come up with a control standard. I think there's a better chance that they would just build amazon echo into the device.

Now you've got me wanting this feature. Not for this receiver so much as my bluetooth enabled ones. It would have to be a generic echo skill that you could customize in the app. Grab a 6 pack of dots and have them all over the house then play your amazon music library or audible to specific receivers.
