If you adjust the sub volume using the CH LVL button on the remote, you don't have to run Audyssey again. That adjustment is based on personal preference.

You don't tell us what kind of sub you have. I also have the 591. jdsmoothie knows the the most about Audyssey, you should follow his advice.
My velodyne 4000r was set at -12 when I first ran Audyssey. -12 is the lowest Audyssey will go so the sub may have been at -13 or lower. I had to lower the gain-volume setting (8:30position)on my sub and rerun Audyssey. After parameter check my sub was set at -7.5 which I felt ok with. I used the channel level on my remote to raise the sub level to 0 making it 7.5dB hotter than Audyssey setting. I feel and hear I all the effects the way I like them now. Are you located in Alabama? If you are ,send me a pm as I am in Ozark.

I everyone. I have just buy an AVR 1611 some weeks before. It is my first time with a 5.1 amplifier. I came form many many years os using analog stereo amplifiers, so its takes time to learn how to properly use this unit. I am using it with 4 speakers. The 2 front speakers are a 2 way, 2 6 " drivers from Pure Acoustics. The 2 surround back speakers are a 3 way with a 8" woofer from Sony.

I have no other speakers. I have set the unit with Audyssey setting and it detected OK the 4 speakers. Everything went well, until I unplugged the unit. When I pulg the unit again and turn it on, the sound was basic and flat, coming only from the front speakers.

I thought that the Audyssey setting where not saved properly, so I did it again, and everything was working normally.

After that there were several events...for example. I am using Dymamic Volume, Dynamic Eq, and Restore functions. These functions are really changing the sound quality, but it happens several times that when I turn the unit on, the sound is not "fine", so I noted that some of this settings are not working. For example I turn off and On dynamic volume, and sound gets to normal again.

Other things that I have experiences was that after turning the unit on, there is no sound at the speakers. Wondering about the situation I tried to enter into the menu and change some parameter, and it seems like the unit gets awake, then some came out form the speakers.

Hope that someone can help me on that.

Thank you in advance

Osvaldo

In a 4.1 or 5.1 setup, the two surround speakers should be connected to the "Surround" speaker posts and not the "Surround Back" speaker posts which are used when you have either 6 or 7 speakers. Try resetting the microprocessor (p. 72 Owner's manual).

Press the "D/ST" button on the remote until STEREO is displayed.

dts-HD Master Audio

I have the Denon AVR-591. When I play a blu-ray disc with a dts-HD High Resolution audio track the on-screen display shows DTS-HD High Res. When I play discs with dts-HD Master Audio tracks all I see is DTS.

The blu-ray player is a Sony BDP-S1200. Does this mean the player is not outputting dts-HD Master Audio?

I also have an older Sony BDP-S500 that does the same thing, but I know that player does not output Master Audio.

Hi Herman Trivilino, check the BD player audio menu ... set "Digital Audio Output" to Auto and set "BD Audio Mix" to Off (default is on).

Aha! Thank you so much. That did it!

I should have read the owner's manual for this Sony Player, but I've been through the torture of Sony manuals before. Almost as bad as Denon manuals!

What is the purpose of this BD Audio Mix Setting option? I see now that the manual does say to "select off to output HD audio signals to an AV amplifier (receiver)".

And the other options on this menu screen ...

Dolby D Compatible Output. This is supposed to convert DTS audio to DD, but it seems to have no effect. I'm turning it off.

Audio DRC. This is the dynamic range compression setting. I'm turning it off. I think I'd rather use the Denon AVR to provide compression when I need it.

Downmix. I'll set this to "Surround".

ok, so I decided it was time to rearrange my home theatre room, and got all my wiring done and everything fires up as far as the tv and receiver go.

I go to plug in the audessy mic and my left front channel is almost not making any sound at all during the audessy setup, and I keep getting an error saying "Ambient noise is too high or level is too low"

Last night, it was working fine before moving everything. I have rewired my left channel speaker many times already, even went into the manual setup, speaker setup, channel level, and the test tone for the left channel is almost non existent, and if I bump the level up, I get a weird staticy sound instead of the noise that comes out of the rest of the speakers. I have even tried different speaker wires, different speakers, it always makes the same sound.

I have done 5 or 6 microprocessor resets.

Do I have a defective left channel connector? In my testing, I have used both banana plugs and just bare wire.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If using different speakers from the same speaker posts is causing the same issue, the unit will need to be repaired or replaced if multiple resets has not resulted in resolving the problem.

Thanks JD, I have figured out the one issue, looks like I had a bare wire touching the back of the unit. Now on to the testing.

quick question.

I have my computer hooked up to my AVR591 via HDMI and using Kodi to watch movies and tv shows.

I have noticed when I am watching anything that is not in Dolby Digital or lossless formats, the sound is terrible. I have Kodi set to passthrough and when 2 channel audio comes through, its done through plii or I set up DTS Neo 6 and sounds horrible.

I have a 5.1 setup, and I cringe watching anything that is not in at least dolby digital.

Is there a setting within the avr to change the sound or automatically go to stereo?

So for instance, I have Cinema Experience setup on Kodi, and I have trailers automatically playing before my movie comes on, and all the trailers are 2 channel, and then my movie is in a lossless MKV format, so I need to figure out how to have 2 channel audio (not surround) for the trailers and then have support for the lossless format.

All Denons memorize surround mode by input signal and source. So, for example, if you select STEREO surround mode for 2ch input from your Kodi, it won't screw up anything for 5.1 Dolby Digital input signals because the surround mode is memorized separately for these different signal types.

Is the AVR591 4K compatible?

My good ole' 491 HDMI section got fried by a power surge on my cable box, and I am considering replacing the HDMI board for about $100. But, I might want some 4K content some day--I suspect it is not good for 4K, even though 3D works fine. So, should I just use this as an excuse to replace the whole unit?
