The auto-setup (MCACC) will detect which speakers you have hooked up and adjust itself accordingly.

I tried this but it appeared to me the 1120 is assuming I have a bi-amp setup, which I don't. Or am I wrong? When I loom at the details if the setup bi-amp is what comes up?

Press home on your remote and the go to the following screen
4 a 1
Make sure your setup here doesn't say bi amp as that the manual speaker configuration. make sure it says normal and not bi amp.

Awesome! Thanks for the code. I was debating on ordering today, but with the free bluetooth I had to go for it.

Now to find a good deal on some LCR and Sub.

Is anyone using an MCACC system in conjunction with a powered sub that has its own room correction EQ and mic such as a Polk DSW micropro4000? My thinking is it would work well since MCACC doesn't do anything with the subs, a separate system would be the best of both worlds. I know the newer higher end Audyessy XT does sub EQ but I just think the price difference between a rec with that compared to the 1120 just doesn't make sense and the extra money could be spent on a sub with its own eq system.

Thanks!

edit: looking for some polk LSi9 fronts (to be powered by an ext. 4ohm-stable amp) if anyone has any suggestions.

When I originally bought the PS3 a few years back I bought it partially for the blu-ray player which was reviewed as one of the best and easily upgraded blu-ray players on the market. I just bought a new Pioneer 1120 receiver and have a 5.1 in wall surround sound set up. I am now finally getting serious about my home theater but am now worried that my PS3 blu-ray may be holding the rest of the HT system back. I have the original PS3, non slim, version and know there have been some changes with the new slim model? Do you all think I need to switch to a separate Blu-ray?

I think PS3 is still one of the best Blu Ray Players
PS3 Slim allows you one potential advantage over the old one.You can bit stream the lossless audio so its decoded in the receiver thats it. There is no difference whether PS3 does or the receiver decodes. Other thing comes to mind is the blue tooth remote or attachment that is required to control PS3. I can;t think of it holding anything back.

I have a samsung 3d led tv and use directv. From what I'm reading in this thread, it sounds like this is a great receiver for my set up and I won't lose any picture quality, unlike the onkyo 608. Is this correct?

Yes. The Pioneer VSX-1120 and above have arguably the best video processors/scalers in the receivers in this price range and even above. They will scale/enhance all sources or you can set it to pure video or something like that to just pass the video through the receiver.

The only things i will be running thru my new 1120k will be three Pioneer Elite DVD players, my three S-VHS VCR's will bypass the receiver and go direct into my Kuro. I will just use the optical out into the 1120k for OTA-HD and the threee VCR's.

I've read a few posts where the receiver is not picking up a 3D signal from directv. I've also read a few where people are watching 3D fine. Is this going to be a problem running the directv box straight to the receiver, or will I have to run it to the TV?

If your front L&R speakers were 6 ohms and the rest of your 5.1 speakers were 8 ohms, would you set the receiver for 6 or 8 ohms??

You won't be able to use the subwoofer output of the avr unless you have an external amp to power the passive subwoofer.

I bought the 1120 last week and have it at home. I still don't have my speakers yet. Had one question - would it be OK to mix and match speakers with 6ohm and 8ohm impedance? Would that cause any problems with 1120? I know that 1120 supports upto 6ohms, not sure if mixing with 8ohms speakers would have any performance issues with 1120.

Mixing and matching 6 and 8 ohm speakers is fine. I personally run a mix of 4 and 8 ohm speakers that the 1120 powers like a champ.

Leave yours set at 8 ohms and never look back.

Still absolutely no mention of a European release?

Pioneer.eu does list a 2020-k version but it appears to be a higher end model than the 1120-k and also costs about a grand...

What do you mean you can't specify HDMI inputs with HDMI control turned on? I can switch inputs through the receiver just fine with HDMI control turned on.

Your center channel is MIA. Did you run MCACC?

Hi all,

I've been a long time lurker but I am compelled to ask for your help. I just received my new Pioneer 1120 this afternoon. Everything seemed to work just fine until I turned the volume up to around -20dbs which causes the receiver to shut down. It does this every time I try to turn up the volume on the receiver. I've already turned off the auto shut off feature yet it still shuts off. After reading the troubleshooting manual, it says to make sure there are no exposed speaker wires touching each other. This is not the case for I have used banana plugs to connect the speaker wire so there are no exposed wires and the banana plugs are not touching each other.

The manual goes on to say that if the ipod indicator light on the front of the receiver is blinking (which it is), that I need to contact either pioneer or the company I purchased it from for the receiver could be experiencing a serious problem.

Both Pioneer and J&R are closed at the moment so I thought I would see if anyone had any input or suggestions. I originally had a an OKKYO 607 but returned it because the HDMI out port stopped working within the first view days of use. I then took the opportunity to try the Pioneer 1120. The speakers worked perfectly fine with the ONKYO therefore I don't believe its the speaker wires.

As of right now, I have been unable to get a receiver that works properly . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

While it is certainly possible you have a manufacture defect with your 1120, the culprit sounds like a frayed wire or speaker that is causing the receiver to shut off to avoid damage. I would disconnect the receiver from all speakers and then re-connect each speaker individually and turn up to see if you can isolate the issue. it may very well be a defective unit or a wiring/connection issue or a problem in a speaker itself.

Winston,

Thanks SO much for the advice. That solved the shutting off problem. I am currently using Monster Flex Pins to connect to my center channel speaker and I recently moved the speaker around a bit and by doing so caused the the Flex Pins to touch resulting in the receiver shutting off.

After I got it up and running, I decided to play a blu ray for a bit to test out the receiver. It all appeared to be working flawlessly for the first 15 minutes until the video and audio signals started to short in and out before finally loosing the signal all together.

I unplugged the blu ray player's HDMI cord going to the receiver input HDMI 1 and plugged it back in. The same thing happened. I feel that there is either a short in the HMDI cord connection or in the HDMI 1 port of the receiver. The HDMI 2 port has my cable box running to it and I didn't seem to have any signal issues with that port (so far).

I tried plugging the HDMI cord running from the blu ray player to an empty port in the receiver (HDMI 3) and it worked without any issues for 20 minutes. As of now, it looks as if I may just need to avoid using the HDMI 1 port in the receiver or I could try another HDMI cord (all of which I purchased from Monoprice).

Thanks again for your help Winston! I'm quite pleased with the initial performance and I haven't even begun to tweak anything. I just hope I don't end up having issues with other HDMI ports on the receiver.
