hope so too smile.gif

there are 2 issues:

1) can you watch/listen to all your sources going thru the receiver when receiver is turned on? if yes -
2) how to setup Standby or pass-thru so you can watch/listen when receiver is turned off

my assumption is #1 is yes but if that's not the case, then that's a different problem and troubleshooting could involve the input assignments, associated an HDMI input with a named device input. you don't have to assign them, can leave them unassigned as HDMI 1,2,3...

and any incompatibilites with cable box etc will show up here - if you can't get video to your TV going thru the receiver but it works OK going directly to the TV. if you can't get video/audio from the Comcast box when the receiver is turned on, then it may not work in Standby either, but it's also possible it might. pass-thru does imply exactly that. but the input assignment has to be correct. IOW, if you want cable HDMI to work when you select CBL/SAT on the receiver display, you manually have to assign whatever HDMI port it's connected to, to the CBL/SAT named input, so it will be piggy-backed on top of the analog AV connections labeled CBL/SAT on the rear panel. also, make sure SIGNAL SELECT is set to Auto or HDMI . with audio inputs, the selection priority is always HDMI >> Digital >> Analog, so literally you can have both HDMI and digital or analog connected to the same source and choose which one to use manually. but Auto will always pick HDMI 1st. SIGNAL SEL is a button on the remote.

Standby pass-thru isn't setup as an automatic feature, you have to set it up and only for one device at a time. this entails going into the Setup Menu >> select System Setup >> select HDMI Setup >> Standby is default turned off, so scroll down to it, use right/left buttons to move it off OFF and select the source you want to have passed -thru when receiver is off >> then exit. from how the SC-68 works, there is not a way to have all HDMI sources passed thru when receiver is off. if you want the family to be able to watch Comcast, then you have to select that HDMI input or if its assigned to CBL, then select CBL for the Standby device. you can't also have a Apple TV in Standby mode at the same time. in the SC-68, you only get 1 choice for Standby at any one time, without going back into the setup menus to change it to the other source.

good luck today.

Steve

In regards to your question 1. well as for 1. yes when the AVR is "on" all four hdmi signals will pass thru to the Kuro when selected . I can set the AVR to AMP or Bypass for each signal as needed which will allow the sound to come from either the Kuro speakers or AVR . IE- AMP ON the sound will come from the AVR and my HT system. If I set it to BYPASS and AMP off and sound comes out of the KURO..
Now I know in essence that is the way pio created the by pass feature in this unit, But I prefer a bypass/pass thru that will let an un-touched signal pass thru the unit to the monitor without the unit powered up. I see all of your part two post contains good info and I will try that as well today because to be honest , I need to get this room back together today.

Wow I forgot how good this receiver sounds. I haven't had it for month and getting it hooked back up was sure a treat. I've been using my Onkyo 705 and while it did a great job the SC37 is just too clean sounding. Real buttery smooth amps.

Do receiver manufacturers employ different LFE settings? I noticed the Pioneers LFE channel is noticeably more tighter and full. This is with out any EQ.

No I wasn't looking for any differences before anyone claims placebo. I've been using this receiver for 2 years. i guess using another receiver for awhile then going back to the SC37 makes you notice any differences much easier.

there is NO COMPARRISON between the onkyo and the 37 pioneer elite... night and day difference. I went from a nr806 to a sc35 and I would NEVER go back.

Hello,

Need a little help here..I searched the forum and still am a bit confused.

Im helping my friend with this amp with regards to the icontrolav app listed in iTunes for ipads

I am confused if there is.

1) a Ipad app that works to control this amp

2) if so are there different update version

3) if not is there another way to control media streaming from pc to this amp.

I really don't want to have to used MonkeyTunes with Media Monkey to control pc audio remotely and then run a audio cord out of the pc to an input to the amp.

Any app at all to allow pc media control streaming to this amp?

Thanks

mo

Just upgraded from a 520-K to a SC-37.

Uh yea kind of mind blowing the difference. Switching out most of my speakers to JBL cinema style. Just picked up 4-8330A's for my new surrounds. Trying to hunt down a deal on a 3677.

Ice based amps FTW!

you didnt have the right Onkyo

any of the 805/875/876 models would have seriously given the SC35 a run for its money

I have owned all of that group...sans the 876

Went back to mines two days ago it plays music better than Denon4311 but with Movies it's a toss up.

not from my perspective... the blackness of a Ice based SC is really nice and better matched to my high efficiency speakers than any of those Onkyos in the 8 series... I just was not happy.

I am not even happy with the SC now that I have monoblocks.

Its been a while since I used my Elite but you should be able to send a test tone to the sub only by adjusting the speaker trim levels manually. Maybe someone smarter than I am can offer a better solution.

Not something I have tried recently. IIRC, I saved the MCACC settings into one of the unused memories, then went into manual setup and turned off all the other speakers in that memory for testing. The other way is to buy a test DVD that excites only the LFE (sub) output.

You need a disk for example that has a 5.1 mix - like a movie would or a DVD-A or SACD with a multi-channel mix.

I hook up REW to the front RCAs, set the setting to stereo (NOT direct), raise the crossover to maximum (250Hz in my case), and disconnect/disable the front channel. That way, everything is sent to the sub(s) via redirection, and the mains are out of the picture. Works great!

Without a test disc you have to use a mode that engages bass management as mentioned above then turn off the other channels.

Searched this thread but couldn't find an exact answer...

I bought two outdoor speakers for my deck, and I hooked them up to my SC-37 as a Zone 2. I am able to watch TV inside on Zone 1 and listen to my IPOD outside as Zone 2. The problem I'm having is that I cannot get the TV signal audio to play in Zone 2.

My TV signal is from a Comcast Xfinity X1 set top box, which is connected to my SC-37 via an HDMI cable.

The only thing that I can think of is that the SC-37 will not play HDMI audio signals to ZONE 2 ???

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Thanks,
Tyler

I think it should... all you are doing is switching zones.
