Might be a stupid question, but I'm a newbie! I just purchased a Sony HT-SS370 home theatre system to hook up my KDL-52Z5100 Sony TV and my Sony Blu-Ray player via Bravia Sync with HDMI cables. Everything works, except I have my TV connected to the internet directly - now when I try something like Netflix or Amazon video, I get no audio - shouldn't it be coming out of the receiver? I think I have all of the settings correct (HDMI switched to ON, Audio Return Channel set to ARC ON) - but still nothing. Do I need to connect the optical audio out from the TV to the receiver? I would have thought that the HDMI cables would handle this. Help!!

Both products need to support HDMI 1.4 in order for the return channel to work. I looked at the info on the Sony HT-SS370 but could not find evidence that it supports ARC. Can you confirm?

Hook up to the analog or fiber optic out from the TV and hook that into your AVR. HDMI 1.3 doesn't send audio back to your AVR from the HDTV.

The manual for the HT-SS370 does say it supports ARC.

Yes the HT-SS370 does support ARC but the Tv does not (did not see in the specs or manual).

When you get the TV connected to your receiver via optical let us know how it works out. There have been several dicussions here over the years about what TVs will send via their optical outputs. Usually it is info that is derived from one of the TV's internal tuners, either OTA or cable.

I'm curious what happens with an internet feed.

If it doesn't work, you could always use analog. I believe Netflix streamed from the net is only 2 channel at this point anyway.
