I've tried different HDMI inputs and the result is the same.

Thanks!
Have you tried different devices and/or cables as well?

I tried multiple cables and it doesn't seem to happen with any other device that's plugged in. Issue is the same between a cable box and a dish network box. I switched to optical on the cable box and that was fine, but now I have a Dish box that doesn't have an optical out.

Thanks, I grabbed one of my older monoprice cable with ferrite cores and it seems to be working fine now. Ordering new cables today.

Any ideas where I can get a new power cable for the receiver? Having trouble finding a two prong cable.

Question Marantz SR5005 AVR Question

Hello Again,

I've still got (and am loving) my trusty SR5005 AVR. Performance continues to be flawless, the sound nice and warm to my liking. But there's one thing that could use improvement: the user interface. And I'm sure it has over the iterations since the 5005 came out.

ANYWAY, Question: I'd like to coax some more bass out of the system when running A + B speakers (a pair on the outside patio). There is a Tone sub menu in the Audio Adjust main menu item. However, I cannot for the life of me get the Tone item to display. I am missing it (#2) and Manual EQ (#4). I know it has something to do with surround parameter and input signal, but WHAT? A TiVO is my source. How the hell do I know what signal type its sending to the Marantz?

Any help would REALLY be appreciated.

Scott

Audyssey Dynamic EQ must be disabled in order to access the Tone Control (bass/treble) settings. MultEQ must be set to Manual to use the Graphic EQ.

Thank you. Where exactly in the Owners Manual is this defined?

Right but I dont see it mentioned that: Audyssey Dynamic EQ must be disabled in order to access the Tone Control (bass/treble) settings. Audyssey must be disabled in order to access Manual EQ.

Anyway, you were correct. Turning off Dyanamic EQ did in fact allow Tone Control to appear in Menu. However, the sound was signficantly "dead" and flat with it disabled. And cranking bass to +6 did very little.

Anyway, thanks as always.

Look again. There are separate notes listed under each of Tone Control and Manual EQ that indicate as such.

Although there is a note under Manual EQ as well, on more current models, the Graphic EQ setting is a separate setting which is why Audyssey must be set to OFF before it can be enabled, whereas on your SR5005, MultEQ simply has to be set to Manual so I edited my previous post to reflect this.

Yes, it makes complete sense that Audyssey's EQ should be turned off before manual tone adjustments could be made. I just find all the little exclusions and references to other page numbers in the manual exhausting. I feel like I'm reading an IRS booklet.

Also surprising was the vast difference in sound when Dynamic EQ was turned off. As mentioned, it was almost completely flat and without definition (bass and treble) and no amount of tone adjustments was going to compensate for that....

Yup, which is my the vast majority of owners likely prefer leaving Dynamic EQ = ON for all sources all the time.

The Dreaded Flashing Standby Light

The Power Indicator Light on my trusty Marantz SR5005 started flashing in increments of .5 seconds last night as my wife and I settled down to watch TV. The receiver would turn on briefly, turn off and the Standby Light would blink. Right at the most inopportune time. The owners manual reveals that its either a shorted speaker wire (its not) or a failed amp.

It is rather interesting that the 5012s were just announced but before I throw the switch on a new one, is there anything else I should check.

Thank you,
Scott

Power off the AVR and unplug all sources and speakers from the AVR. Power it back on. Does it still power off? If yes .... hello SR5012.

I duly unplugged all sources and speakers and same thing. So, at 64 years old, I dont have the time to mess with repairs (I live in a rural area) so out with the old, in with the new: SR5012 via Crutchfield, free shipping and cable labels.

I'll post a cursory review when I get the 5012 fired up.

JD, thanks for the help.
