Do you happen to have HDMI CEC control turned on or off?

Using correction for all and then correcting left and right to zero correction using the trim in pro worked fairly well

Movies sound better. I will listen to music today.

Wow.....that thread concerns me and I will start to monitor it
Onkyo's customer support is..IMO...the worst of the major players
And their price to performance ratio is at the top.....LOL....go figure I guess

Excluding the 885...all the Onkyo products , I have owned, have needed work...HDMI boards specifically

Well...it sounds like you need warranty work
I would advise you to document, document, document and it helps( it did me anyway) if the unit goes to the same shop each time it needs repair
I assure you Onkyo customer service will act like they have never heard of your problem...even after they have tried to fix it under warranty twice ...been there done that

I also wonder if there is any connection to A4L having several 5508 refurbs currently?

Good luck to you

Due to the fact the 5508's seem to be in short supply..ie...I have seen many say they got the "last one" and the fact that A4L seems to have multiple units in stock...makes me think the replacement unit is just around the corner
ie...60 days out or so

One thing I will say Onkyo doesn't do...is offer the final inventory at 50% off( or more) retail like some of the other manufacturers do

They seem to ( Onkyo branded products anyway, Integra may differ) offer a realistic price discounted from retail from the start

Newegg is already selling the xx09 receivers at below retail

Warren

right around the corner is Onkyo/Integra speak for Oct/Nov on the pre-pros.

Makes sense...gauging by last year
The 3008 and 5008 were out in about late July...the pre/pro followed about 2 months later

There also seems to always be a flurry of refurbs available right before than changeover...that seems to be the case now

On another note...I like the new faceplace design they are going to with the Onkyos

Hi all,

I have an Onkyo 5508 and I am trying to figure out if 2.1 is possible? Right now, I am running XLR out of my Oppo BDP-95 and XLR into my Onkyo 5508 and XLR out of my 5508 into my Emotiva. My sub only has an RCA connection (or regular speaker connection). I have it hooked up with RCA right now. Is it possible to run the "2" out of the XLR and the ".1" out of the RCA to the sub at the same time or do I need to come out of the Onkyo 5508 with regular old speaker cables to the sub?

Thanks all!

Mike

Thought you guys might be interested. Just received July Stereophile Mag and Kal Rubinson gives rave reviews to the 80.2 sonically. To paraphrase, it's got good analog stages, DACs and digital processing. And he's really likin XT32:"the sound was glorious."

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

+1. Did all the basic reset and checks to 5508 and remote. Same result you had. The 5508's remote commands the 706. Luckly there is a warranty on this unit, so back it goes tomorrow.

I just subscribed to the digital service expecting to be able to read the latest issue, but all it offered is the June issue. Apparently, they are "protecting" their print edition. Grrr.

I got my replacement unit last week and was curious about manufacturing date.
Is it printed on the device? I looked up the rear panel, but could not find it..I could see the serial number, but no date...

There is no explicit manufacturing date provided on the device.
One could only derive the manufacturing date indirectly if there where serial numbers connected to manufacturing dates.

Maybe be solder flux...and could be causing those 2 pins to short out causing a multitude of problems. I am sure you could clean it off with some type of solvent like rubbing alcohol or acetone as well as cleaning the 40 pin soldered area off as well.

Only units affected are those with a '0' in the eighth digit of the serial number OR the 9th digit is a ' 1, 2, 3 ' .

In the failure thread Alan modified it to 0 in the 8th then followed by 1,2, or 3. Not an or.

The thought was that as the supplier ramped up production errors were made

He then described in more detail the repair

Digits #8 and #9 on my 5508 are respectively 0 & 9. Manufactured in Sept 2010, I guess, right?

A "0" and a 1, 2 or 3 would indicate Jan, Feb or March 2010 manufacturing dates, right?

Jeff
