Guys, the audyssey detected my sub at 30 feet. Should I leave at that, or re-adjust the sub to its actual distance of 13 feet?

Leave it... but also check your phase settings on the sub.

How do I check the phase settings? Do I need a test disc for that?

Just look over the last two pages starting #1497. We've been discussing the situation. Had video problems with new refurb out of the box. Tried troubleshooting with help from others here. No resolution. Exchanged for new refurb.

Don't want to judge prematurely, but everything seems great so far. Chances are that everything is great, but I'll give it a couple of days - movie night tonight and lots of music through the weekend.

Does someone have access to the September Stereophile? There is a follow-up article on the 80.2 in which Kal points out a problem with Audyssey which also may affect the 5508.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem is though. Something about the wrong mic profile being loaded. Any one know what is issue is and how to check for it?

Thanks,

-Brian

Thanks,

Are you using a Audyssey Pro installers kit yourself or did you have a installer do a Audyssey Pro calibration for you?

There was a screw-up in the old firmware where they were not using the different parameters for the Audyssey Pro calibrated mic during a Audyssey Pro calibration. So it will only effect you if you are using a Audyssey Pro calibration, if you are using the standard internal Audyssey setup then it has no bearing on you.

It's still a good idea to always run the latest firmware available.

I'm feeling confident now. Several days of use and no glitches. So I went ahead and ordered my subs, the last major phase of my system renovation.

I had been making improvements throughout the system when receiver/prepro issues really got in the way. Now that I have stability in that area, the improvements have come together and the sound has really acheived that elusivie zone where everything is just right.

Thanks for all the emotional support during a difficult time.

Hi.

I have the Silver Mic Audyssey Pro installer kit. Is it possible to use this with an Onkyo 5008?

I have an RS232-USB cable, and the latest Audyssey software.

If so how is this set up with the Onkyo??

cheers.

Will

^Hi. Unfortunately the 5008 is NOT Pro capable. For any Pro-capable unit you should be fine. See this thread.

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

Then the answer is Yes you're fine. Jeff (pepar) or one of the other Onkyo Pro guys can help you with further details and there is a downloadable instruction guide for Onkyo on the Pro Installer page.

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

The Onk/Integra downloads are for the 885/886/9.8/9.9. The Pro software has detailed instructions on the left margin for the 5508 and, I'd guess, every other unit that it works with.

You learn something new everyday. I didn't know they had Pro kits with silver mics, I thought they were all black. Is this an earlier version of the Pro kit?

Don't feel left out. I used to be a Dealer for Audyssey equipment and even I didn't know that there were different versions of the Pro Kit - I was under the impression that it was only ever the software that was changed/improved/updated.

But now it has become apparent that there is indeed two versions (at least) of the Pro Kit. The original silver one was for use with the Sound EQ and the “IK2” release added extra cables so that it could be used with Pro Ready AVR's and Processors. Audyssey have also suggested that the newer Mic will give better results, but I don’t see how this would be true when the Pro Mics are all supposed to be calibrated to the same spec - unless they have purposely fiddled with the calibration files of the newer Mics in order to achieve a different result.

If they wanted to change the results, I would think that they would change the target curve.

Unless they only wanted a "different" result from the newer Mic.

I have a question for those with a 5508 and a Pro Kit. Is it possible to roll off the bottom end at a frequency of your choice? Let's say (for example) a Subwoofer is capable of going down below 10Hz, but you want to roll it off at 10Hz. Can it be done please?
