do none of your devices (e.g. Blu-ray player or Apple TV etc.) that are already connected to the receiver support YouTube? That would be by far the easiest way.

barring that, you need some sort of audio connection to the AVR from the laptop. Easiest way is with a basic 3.5mm-to-RCA stereo cable, going from the headphone/speaker output mini-jack on the laptop to the front panel AUX inputs on the receiver.

No, I kind of have been wanting a ATV though.

Just asked and apparently youtube videos are going to be coming to xbox with the next update, for what it's worth.

do you have a PS3? That does YouTube.

ATV is awesome if you are already in the "apple universe" with music on iTunes etc.

I've always sortof been forced into the apple world or pwned by apple. Either way a ATV is probably a good fit for me.

Not all YouTube content plays on the ATV-2g with stock software. This comes up more often than I would have expected. I use optical to connect my MacBook to my 4311 although the front-panel connectors would be simpler.

What has me interested is mainly the music videos. Duh, I just remember I am playon for life. I joined and then got away from it for a while. That plays through the xbox. But I really do not like the format. I may look into the ATV some more. Kind of a bummer considering the free airplay and all

A software application called Airfoil will allow you to send the audio output of any other application running on your computer to an Airplay device - see:

I downloaded a trial of airfoil. I can't figure out what it wants me to do or what things are my options to play sounds through, or how it works.

I just tried airfoil and it works with my 4311. When you open the screen, it should show Denon:[avr-4311CI] as one of the options. If not, you need to get the airplay code on your 4311...and get it hooked to your in home network.

Then click on SOURCES (on the top) and select your source (eg. Windows Media Player). Start WMP and then click on the music symbol aftere the Denon:[AVR...] entry.

Alternatively, RTFM

To be clear, AirPlay on the Denon and Airfoil are audio only (plus artwork). If music videos are your goal then those products won't help.

Will AIRFOIL serve these file types:

1.) .flac
2.) .mp3 @ 320kbps
3.) .ogg
4.) .wav
5.) .wma
6.) Windows Media Audio Lossless (WMA Lossless)

Does Airfoil support the files that you want to serve by TYPE (i.e.: Serve only .flac files)?

It doesn't work like that. You should download the relevant bits and try it out. Rogue Amoeba is big on free trials.

Airfoil does not by itself "serve" audio files. My understanding is that Airfoil resamples the audio output of an application that is putting out sound (which can be anything from a media player application to a web browser) and directs it to an Airplay device.

I have had to redo my Audyssey calibration several times, and each time it sounded better with Audyssey turned on than when it was off. If Audyssey is making your music sound less full, it's possible that this is because you are used to bloated midbass and Audyssey has tamed that. On the other hand, if you know what well balanced sound should be like and Audyssey is giving you something worse, then there are probably a bunch of possible reasons why it might sound less "full," including improper mic placement, not enough measuring positions, reflections from stuff in front of your speakers such as coffee tables, and a mic stand that transmits vibrations to the mic.

Most of the music stands I've seen are made of thin metal that resonates, and wooden rulers vibrate plenty--trying holding the end of a ruler flat over your earhole and tapping or scraping near the other end, or put your ear flat on the music stand and tap on various places on the stand.

FWIW, I am using a $30 camera tripod from Walmart with rubber feet that I am placing on the couch where my only listening positions are, and also on the floor in front of the couch (carpeted, wood floor, wooden frame house). Maybe I'd get better results with the mic stand that people talk about, I dunno... But I am VERY happy with the sound post-calibration.

Is DEQ on with Audyssey and what is the MV? At low volumes, Audyssey's flat bass may sound thin compared to uncorrected room boominess. That being said, a cheap camera tripod is the minimum autosetup tool for any self-respecting forum member.

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

I was using a camera tripod (a very good one) until last week when I got the On-Stage boom + adapter. The tripod gave me very inconsistent results each time I ran Audyssey. The new boom stand did a MUCH better job. It's also a lot easier to use.

So how are folks removing the colorful Windows 7 sticker on the front of these receivers without causing faceplate damage or leaving a residue?

Very, very impressed with this receiver and Audyssey XT32. Struggled initially with some harshness in the treble and an overall lean spectrum, thinking i had a bad mic or speaker toe-in problems, until I finally investigated the phase error message I kept skipping during my numerous calibrations (who could possibly reverse such a simple connection? :-).

After checking and correcting the FL wiring, the upper bass filled in nicely and the treble became silky smooth. The dual subs sounded wonderful right out of the gate and even more so after correcting the phase error. Glad I didn't give up on this technology because it's stunning the improvement it has made over my 2003-era receiver which cost 2.5x the Denon.

Substantially improved audio performance (which is obvious, not subtle), hdmi switching, online firmware updates, web setup and control, and a street price well below the "flagship" AVRs. Well done Denon and Audyssey!

Discussion about reputable, competitively-priced authorized online reseller sources is permitted, and those has been referenced numerous times like here. As yet I seen rare mention of for much more than 20-25% off for NIB. AFAIK there is no clearance in sight, unllike with Onkyo, which has new NeoX-equipped models hitting the stores soon. IMO this baby still leads the pack in value, performance and proven reliability.

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

I can't speak to aftermarket, though jdsmoothis has posted about those on the Denon threads. But if you are shopping for a new 4311, I strongly recommend purchasing from an authorized dealer for the valuable Denon OEM 3 yr warranty, see post above for dealers you should directly contact for pricing. Also, it's not a bad idea to use a credit card which has the "double the OEM warranty" feature on such purchases, which can usually add up to an additional year for free. BTW the A100 has a 5 yr OEM.

Yes, I still like playing with Dalis.

+1

3 years (Denon) + 1 year (credit card) = 4 years : should be more than sufficient

If yet additional peace of mind is desired, a SquareTrade warranty can be purchased from numerous distributors or directly from SquareTrade up to 90 days after purchase of the AVR.

Agree but just wanted to confirm with someone who has already tried this that such chemicals will not mar the faceplate. Did you remove yours in such a fashion without incident? I also thought a blowdryer would help loosen the glue but don't want to melt anything either. Thanks!

PeteTheRock -- I have found to get your best price delivered there on a new 4311, call around to Denon's Authorized Dealers and see what the bottom line is delivered to your door.

Tell the salespersons that you are doing competitive quotes and are buying very soon if their price is right.

You should be down around 20-25% below Amazon's price listed now.

I had a thought of using the hd radio on the 4211. I need to play music in another room while using the TV/SAT in the main room. Is there a way to set the 4311 up to do that? I suppose I would use zone2 or 3 but I assume that would shut off the TV/SAT. I read about these features in the manual but still not sure if my senario will work. Thanks
