This is dumb, but I am new to HDMI and ARC.

I'm going to upgrade to a new system in the next few months:

Vizio XVT553sv
Denon AVR-3311CI

The Vizio allows ARC only on the HDMI-1 input.
The Denon allows ARC only on the Monitor-1 output.

I have a few questions:
  1. Are these devices compatible with respect to ARC?
  2. Does the connection diagram in the attachment make sense?"
  3. Do I need optical connection #3 to get digital audio from the HR20 DVR?

Please help unconfuse me.

Thanks,

Burt

If you are hooking your DirecTV HR20 up with HDMI to the Denon Receiver, why do you want audio coming from the Vizio TV?

Hi balpers, there's an issue with Vizio ARC. Check out the LCD Flat Panel Display forum under "Vizio XVR3SV".

If I am understanding this correctly, using ARC is the only way to get the Audessey display and the Denon GUI to show up on the screen.

No it does not require ARC (Audio Return Channel).

I'll go back and read the manual more carefully. Like I said, this is all new to me.

Thanks.

FYI, there's a Official Denon 3311CI/ 991 Owner's Thread (with lots of info) where you can search for answers and post your questions.
