I have setup the AVR-3806 to have the rear surrounds programmed for Zone2. Zone 1 should be using the front and surround outputs.

This is not a theater setup, I just need to drive two sets of speakers with Zone 1.

Does the unit need to see a center channel to activate the surround channels?

If so, how can I trick it without hooking one up?

FYI...Zone 2 drives two speakers in the master bath and Zone 1 drives two sets of speakers in the back yard.

No, a center speaker is not required. Did you run AUTO SETUP? You may have to reset the microprocessor (check back of manual for instructions).
