My Sony BR player don't do this as well and if I recall, my PS3 did, but only occasionally. It sucks because, to me anyway, the PS4 is proving to be as capable of a BR player than its predecessor.

^ For folks hearing this, be sure to try both LPCM and Bitstream audio output from your player.

Pops happen with the PS4 for me too. Both LPCM and bitstream. The pops are loud enough to be a major issue. I've tried the ps4 with an older yamaha hdmi receiver and there was no popping. Quite annoying.

I'm using 50.25, which is the latest firmware for the original MRX series.

New Sony TV not talking to my MRX 700

I had a Panasonic Plasma that was alive until Thursday. Now I have a Sony Bravia. My old set up was Direct TV DVR and OPPO 95 via HDMI to the MRX 700 and the connection to the Panasonic was HDMI. I unplugged the Panasonic and plugged in the Sony. Oppo 95 played Cd's and DVD just fine. Internet radio played just fine. When I hit TV which I have set up as 2 channel or Sat which is 5.1 I get a notice of NO SIGNAL on the MRX screen. I cannot understand why the Sony and the MRX are hot talking. Sony said the DVR should be plugged directly into the TV. I did this and it worked but of course the sound came out of the on board TV speakers. Why didn't the Sony just play as the Panasonic did? What can I do about this? I can't find any settings in my original set up that causes the MRX to recognize the TV Brand and I don't see anything in the Sony set up that would need to be changed to accept a pass through signal. I find it hard to believe that Sony technology is different from any other and that it would exclude an hdmi connection from the MRX.This is a cross post because I didn't know there was another thread in the newer models of Anthem. Thanks Blayne

Just upgraded my MRX 300 to an MRX 500. Why you ask? I stupidly sold my MRX 300 and tried out a few other models, Pioneer SC-1523-k and an H/K 3700 (both of which did not touch the sound quality of the MRX 300 in my opinion)

Once I hooked up the MRX 500 I could immediately tell a huge difference in sound quality even before running ARC.

So, I have now run ARC. My setup:

KEF IQ60c center
KEF IQ30 fronts
KEF IQ10s surround
HSU sub

ARC ran without any issues but I noticed it set my front L/R to 60 for the crossover. Would you suggest I change that to 80 and recalibrate since these are bookshelf speakers and the sub can probably handle that mid-bass a bit better or should I trust the original setting?

I guess I have THX recommendations on my brain as they recommend setting all speakers to small and setting the crossovers on all to 80. Any thoughts?

Sounds great as it is but I am curious what others recommend.

I would set all speakers to 80 Hz and recalculate

Grasshoppers,

You are right! I turned the subs facing one another to eliminate a 8db drop at 50 to 70 hz. I did not notice the 8 db drop in the target curve at 20 hz. I turned the right sub back facing the sweet spot and changed the polarity to 180
degrees. Problem solved.

Thanks for the catch!

BiotypE, I also have a MRX500, and ARC set all my speakers to 60hz, I asked in this forum if I should set it to 80hz (THX), and the experts told me that ARC works diferently than Audyssey and others, and that I should leave it a 60hz, so untill now I left it that way and it sounds terrific, but I am not 100% sure if I should still leave it at 60hz, specially now that I have a SVS PB12 Plus subwoofer.

Ive also tried diferente receivers, in my case Denon 2808 and Onkyo 809, especially the latter was a big disapointment in sound quality, now with Anthem I am totally satisfied.

Regards from Spain.

If I remember I think some of you are having clicks and pops when changing of the codec. I have been having this for a while but more so now and louder too. I really wish they would fix this already. I have all the latest updates. For a 2k receiver, we shouldn't be having these issues.

I made an interesting find today and I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this before. I have a Sony S790 (previously had an S550). The HDMI audio output was set to Auto. With Auto I would get some little pops while watching stuff even if the codec wasn't changing almost like a little hiccup in the sound. I switched to PCM today and I haven't heard anything so far and I haven't heard any pops yet when the codec changes either. Gonna keep it this way for a while to test. Anybody know of a reason why I shouldn't keep it this way? Or did anybody notice the same thing? I never tried this on the S550. As a side note, I have audio and video separated on this unit. Both connections are using Monster cables. One is a 1000HD which is being sued for Audio and the other is a black platinum I believe for video. Previously with the S550 I only had the 1000HD connected.

There is no reason not to keep the Blu-Ray in PCM. The new codecs are lossless and it doesn't matter which device decodes it to PCM. The BR player or the receiver. Actually, there is one advantage to having the player decode it as it can mix audio for the interactive features but they are not used much.

There is advantages for the lossy formats as some processors do a better job than others.

Not exactly, but I've hooked my wife's Retina MacBook through it and experienced no issues at all. I wouldn't expect a mini to be any different in that regard, as it's basically their MacBook platform in a different box.

cool, thanks. I've decided to go a different way buy building a Windows based HTPC. It'll be a tad more expensive, but should be better performing .

Hey guys, i seem to be having a weird issue with my receiver. I have the MRX 300 and i have it setup as 7.1 as in 4 rears. I am using it as a prepro.

It seems that the rears (6 and 7) don't seem to work properly. Here is what is happening. When i play a 7.1 movie, during the menu sequence, all the speakers play fine. On the screen it says Dolby 2.0 i believe. But when i play the movie and it says dolby 3/4 on the screen the rears (6 and 7) don't play. The rest (5) work fine. What is going on?? Also, when i do the noise sequence from the receiver, they all make the pink noise, so no issue there.

Here is my equipment:
MRX 300 as Prepro
Outlaw 7700 (7 channel amp)
PS3 as Bluray player
connected by HDMi cables for audio

Other things are:
Paradigm Studio series speakers
WDHD TV

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

It is probably a setting that is not correct. But, I am not sure if it is in the receiver or the sources. If the screen says 2.0 it is only receiving a stereo signal, so my best guess is the PS3 or other sources is only set to stereo.

If you go into the main menu and then: >> Audio/Video Setup and Presets >> Listening Mode Presets.

Make sure your 5.1 Dolby Digital is set to PLIIx Movie(this will enable the 2 back speakers). Also make sure your DTS 5.1 is set to Last Used and the DTS-ES is set to None.

Yes it is. A Dolby TrueHD 7.1 movie won't use the PLIIx because it's already 7.1, but in order to have your 5.1 movies play all the speakers you need to have PLIIx turned on otherwise they will not use the other two speakers. PLIIx was created to take information from the side surrounds and matrix it into the center backs in a 7.1 speaker setup.

While playing a 5.1 movie hit the "Audio" button on the remote. Then use the up/down arrows to cycle through the listening modes until you get to PLIIx. When you get to PLIIx your back speakers will be on for 5.1 movies. This will work for an on the fly adjustment, but if you want the MRX to automatically default to to using your back speakers for 5.1 you have to set it in the menu is I described earlier.

Ok, ok. My problem is different though. On the menu of the Blu Ray, all 7 speakers are working. But when I watch the movie only 5 work. The movie I am watching for example is Transformers DOTM which is encoded in Dolby True HD 7.1. On the screen of the MRX it says, Dolby True HD 3/4. So all 7 should be working without the PLIIx as it is already encoded as 7.1.

I understand that if it is in regular Dolby Digital or DTS, that I have to select PLIIx for the rears to work as it is naturally 5.1. But I am having trouble with a Dolby True HD 7.1 encoded disc.

Thanks for your help so far Legairre. I appreciate it.

Hey no problem glad to help. If you're seeing 3/4 on the display then the MRX is getting 7.1 from the PS3. If you hit the audio button on the remote twice does the display on the MRX show "None".

Not home right now so i cannot check, but i will do it later tonight. If it does say none what should i do?

Anything else i should check for while i am at it?

That's the thing. It says it on the screen but no output. Yet i know they are working becuase during the menu they were on, and with the pink noise they also go on. So weird.

The 3/4 on the display is the input. If you hit audio then you should see the output to the speakers. None means there isn't any post processing and that wharever number of channels is input should be output to the speakers. If you see something else when you hit audio then use the up/down arrows to change it to none and see if the speakers come on.

When you get home make sure the listening mode preset in the MRX for Dolby 5.1 isn't set to "Last Used". If it is and you play a 5.1 movie it will only use 5 speakers for all movies until you change it to None by hitting audio or another setting like PLIIx in the listening mode presets.
