Again, I'm still interested in how the FM / HD radio tuner works compared to others. Anthem doesn't list any actual specs for it at all. Marantz does.

Glad to be of assistance.

No idea. Only the MRX 700 has HD Radio and I never listen to FM anymore now that the FM channels I normally listen to are available on the digital cable system. I have the MRX 500 on order but have yet to receive it. Hopefully soon.

Cheers.

Hey guys,
How many microphone measurements (seating positions), can ARC run while calculating your room settings?

You can use up to 10. Most use 5 since it takes twice as long to do. It would really depend on the size of your listening area.

Forgot to mention. ARC averages its measurments for the total number of positions so if you don't need 10, use fewer. If you watch from the prime position most often by yourself, use fewer as well. You won't regret this purchase, Anthem makes great sound

other than features and "raw power" do the 500/700 differ in pure SQ ? from their pre-outs ? ie do they use the same processing, DACs, analogue stages etc please ?

please ignore question I've found answer in first post ! lol - they all share same pre-amp and processing accoridng to that post -cheers

Guy's,
So far it sounds like from what I have read, that these AVR's are superior to the other top brand AVR's when it comes to listening to music. How do these AVR's compare to the other brands when it come's to watching movies? Does ARC work its magic as well with movies compared to music? I noticed in one of the earlier posts that ARC save's 2 different settings, Movies and Music.

It's probably up to your own ears but I'd say yes.

If it can fix music there really isn't any trick to doing it for movies using ARC. Correcting freq. response is about fixing sound in your room no matter what you're listening to.

Wow - what a detailed thread. Sadly due to my lack of technical knowledge, there is quite a bit whch is beyond me, but certainly have learnt and appreciated the time and effort many of you have invested here.

I did find the one review very helpful, and am not sure if this is the right place to ask but could a few more people give us some feedback on thier experiences?

I am based in South Africa and we are still waiting for the first shipment of units to arrive, but in the meanwhile I am trying to find out as much as possible about the MRX 500 (which I have ordered).

Thanks in advance

I can't wait until someone does a comparison between the ARC technology and Audyssey XT32 technology when it comes to running dual subs.

I'm going to do the comparison in 2 weeks, but until then if someone chimes in that would be great!

Dual subs running as one in ARC doesn't seem as accurate, on paper anyways, as each sub driver may have subtle differences as well as placement variances.

I'll post when I'm done.

Jeff

Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're correct!

They run 4 subs using ARC at Paradigm's HT and all sounds great

Anyone else really frustrated about not being able to actually purchase or demo anthem gear? The two dealers in my area dont stock anything anthem and will only special order it...so no demos. I understand anthem wanting to protect their dealers, but I cant understand how this model is better than having authorized online dealers. If I already cant get a demo and must buy sight unseen, id rather buy from a reputable place like amazon where I know they will take a return if something is wrong. Anthem dealer support in my area is non-existant.

I agree - I don't understand this model either. The only dealers are over 50 miles away so I would probably try to get it shipped to me. The dealer is really no different than an internet retailer in this case. Why not sell online instead (maybe direct from Anthem)?

Big +1! My dealer has to special order these unit's and a I have to pay them before I get the thing? So far there is about 2 reviews on this web site, Where are all the positive reviews? These AVR's are not cheap! You can get the top of the line Onkyo for the price of the 500? I guess I have to wait for more people to post there results.

Jeff,

as soon as I get mine I will compare it to Pioneer's MCACC which I use in conjunction with a Velodyne SMS-1 (for the low frequencies that Pioneer doesn't try to equalise; e.g. < 63Hz).

Cheers.

I don't want to start a war here .
I want the MRX owners to get angry and start posting reviews on these AVRs!
I know the Anthem Pre/pro's are top's in the audiophile world. Unfortunately I don't have 7K to spend on them! You have to understand my frustration not being able to demo these AVR's, and to have to give my dealer the money upfront to order it.

I think a DEMO is meaningless.

How it sounds in the store has no bearing on how it
will perform in your home or theater. Most people buy
the BOX - [any brand] - bring it home and see how
it performs. To do that they need to PAY If they
don't like it - they bring it back.

???? Best buy, fry's, 6ave ect all have demo rooms. even HTIB setup on the floor. bottom line people want to see hear and touch what they are purchasing.

Unfortunately it is not that easy. My dealer is in another state. The closest quality dealer in NYC, told me if I wanted to discuss and demo these AVRs in his store, I had to pay a consultant fee!The other dealer I visited didn't even set up the amp, he demoed it as is out of the box!

I didn't demo this unit because I bought it before it was released, but I find this issue funny/ironic. My friends from NJ, make lots of jokes at the expense of my town just outside Albany, NY - usually "Does everyone just cut wood for a living?"

But within 20 minutes of me I've got a dealer with Anthem/Paradigm on display and ready for a demo. Yes, a very limited # of items, but there none-the-less.

And yes, the MRX-700 is an amazing receiver. Amp is as good as my NAD 773 and ARC puts it WAY over the top.

Why is there NO perfect equipment, only compromises?
