I assume the US price is what was showing on on their website a minute or two ago...?! . . . maybe slightly higher in Canada!?

Well, the Blue Diamond is a fully differential design. For five or seven channels, $2400 seems reasonable.

Are you familiar w/ balanced XLR connections? A fully differential amp operates along a similar principle, as it maintains a balanced signal throughout the amp. Each channel contains both a positive amp and a negative amp. Thus, a fully differential seven channel amp effectively consists of 14 amps.

The comparison to Emotiva is specious. The only Emotiva amp that is a fully differential design is the XPA-1 monoblock. And it costs $999 for one channel.

[quote=WiWavelength;19489100]Well, the Blue Diamond is a fully differential design. For five or seven channels, $2400 seems reasonable.

For those of us that are not electrical engineers, what does this full differential design do for me? I have a B&K AVR 307 receiver (150w x 7). I love its sound. The highs are open, airy, very detailed and never harsh, grainy, screechy, etc. The bass is powerfully strong and deep, but very tight/quick and controlled - not sloppy. You always get the feeling there is plenty of reserve power - never straining even at very loud levels. Low level detail is very good, and the amps are very quiet. I recently listen to an Anthem system. It could have been the set up, but it did not sound as open and airy to me. It also seemed to get more congested when there was a lot going on musically (I was using some of my classical-symphonic music discs). I am building a larger theater, so I'm looking to upgrade to separates with 200w or + per channel for the larger roomer. B&K is out of business, so that is why I'm looking here to find something with similar or better sound. Did B&K use a full differential design? All I know is that they used a "Class A pre-driver and Class AB Mosfet output stages" ( I don't have a clue what all that means, I just know that I liked the way it sounds). How would these Gemstones "sound" compared to the B&K ? Thanks for any helpful insights - PK

Who knows what you know? Plenty of AVS users have more cents than sense. They know barely a whit about electrical circuits or acoustics. Rather, they just know that their toys are expensive & exclusive because somebody told them that they are "high end."

A fully differential design will cancel common mode noise & distortion. Translation: it may have a quieter noise floor and lower harmonic distortion.

Your B&K is not a differential design. You will not likely find a differential amp section in an AVR. And the positive qualities that you ascribe to your B&K are those of almost any accurate amp.

The comparison to the Anthem amp was probably a misleading one unless you made it in the same room & speakers as your B&K. "Congestion" sounds like a product of speakers & acoustics, not amps.
