I am a newbie when it comes to home theater and hi-fi audio systems, so pardon me if I am missing some basic information. I have an 18 X 20 feet family room which is open to other areas of the house on 1 side. Last month I bought 2 Paradigm Studio 100 speakers with a CC 590 center channel. I am planning to get Paradigm Sub 12 or SVS PB-13 ultra sub and 2 Studio 10 speakers for surrounds, later next year. My end goal is to setup a home theater system to listen to music and watch movies and tv.
Since last 1 month, I only have front 3 speakers hooked up to the Denon AVR-2311CI. I really love the sound of Multi Channel Music from the AVR-2311CI, it’s not too bright and not too tame either
Yesterday I bought Anthem MRX 500 with very high hopes of getting even better quality based on recommendations from various sources but the predicament I am in is that both me and my wife didn’t like the music from MRX 500 better than the Denon AVR-2311CI. We thought the sound was less crisp and much warmer (being new to this I am not sure how to say it was good or bad). So far we have not watched any movies on either of the system as 65 to 70% of our need is music and I heard that if a system is good at music it should be equally good with movies (correct me if I am wrong). I really wanted to like the MRX 500 and even used ARC to perform room correction but still the out of box settings of Denon without any room correction or anything is impressing us much more than the Anthem receiver. So please advise upon what to expect from each receiver and why is one better than other and how to properly compare the 2 receivers to select one to keep.
After talking to my dealer today, I switched off the Dolby feature of MRX 500 from the setup menu and wow, now I can see what real Anthem power is, the performance/power is amazing from Anthem MRX 500 now. Only issue still left which I didn't mention before is that, there is considerable static noise coming from all 3 speakers’ tweeters with MRX 500, when I connect it using HDMI 1.4a to my Sony vaio laptop, to listen music from ITunes. Same is the case when I connect PS3 to MRX 500, using HDMI. I have tried using different HDMI 1.4a to rule out if my HDMI has some problem.
Although a very minute static noise is also present in all 3 speakers’ tweeters, when I use Denon receiver instead of Anthem receiver but still the noise in Anthem's case is too much and really messing up the songs, whereas this noise in Denon's case is not messing up the songs at all. Also the noise is only coming from the Tweeters of all 3 speakers (i.e. Front Left, Right and Center Channel). Please let me know if you have any ideas what may be the reason and how to fix it?
Many thanks for your time.
