hello guys, I just bought a ps3 and im having issues with the games not playing in dolby digital . I have my playstation 3 connected through HDMI going to my denon 791 reciever. I also have a xbox 360 and it has no problems automatically starting in dobly digital. I also dont have any issues watching bluerays b/c it automatically switches to DTS-HD or MASTER. Im just having problems with the games. Ive tried GOD OF WAR 3, Uncharted 2 both support DTS and dobly digital. Any thoughts?

PS3 games will generally output multichannel PCM (5.1 or 7.1) if that option is available. This is better than DD or DTS, if your receiver can handle it. (EDIT: If your receiver can handle DTS-HD, then it can do multichannel PCM)

If the 791 front panel display is reading "Mult Ch In" then as sjmc notes, the game is being played in PCM vice being passed to the 791 and converted to PCM there ... no audio quality difference either way.

This certainly looks like a PS3 issue, not a problem with the receiver. There's a great FAQ on the PS3 maintained by RonJones that may point you in the right direction:
