Really, in-wall amplifiers are not for high-end audio systems, but does anyone have opinions on using them just to play music from an iPod or mobile device to built-in speakers?

Someone else asked about this same thing, forget how far back. There are some small light weight amps out there if you don't need a lot of power.

I know those T-amps are pretty small, for example. Pyle makes a mini amp.

This is wide, but pretty thin, and the brand seems to have a pretty good rep (http://www.amazon.com/AudioSource-AM...2114715&sr=8-6)

"But this one goes up to 11"

If you can still find one of the Sherborne IWA-1 amps, they are pretty slick. In wall and RS232 controllable with an adjustable crossover and sub out. I have one in the wall behind one of my TVs hooked to the variable audio out powering a pair of our on-wall Profile speakers. Makes a great little "tv enhancement" system.

The AudioShare IWA-50 is a great in-wall amp. Lot's of power in a little package. Very reliable as well.

I have also used an in-wall amp made by Pragmatic but it has been a few years since I've used them.

Good luck!

I too have had good luck with the Audioshare IWA-50. I have a home recording studio and was driving the monitors with a reference amp. About 2 years ago, I tried the IWA-50 just for kicks. I haven't switched back to the reference amp since.
