Hi everyone,

I picked up the RX-V671 on Monday replacing my Bose Lifestyle 50 and I have Definitive Tech's PC-600's. I am very very happy with my purchase and I love it's features. One thing though, I can't figure for the life of me how to stream music from my pc. I have Verizon Fios. I have an ethernet cable running from my router to a Trednet 10/100 mbs switch, and then an ethernet connection to my RX-V671. Everything seems to be configured correctly but it shows "No Content". In windows media player 12, it shows my receiver and access to and from it shows allowed. I am able to listen to internet radio, and I can push music from my pc and laptop to the receiver, but I am unable to access my pc's music folder from the receiver. I called support and after half an hour, even connecting the router ethernet directly to the receiver, he couldn't figure out why it was working. Turned off my Norton firewall and lowered my router's security settings, still no content.

Any ideas and help will be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, the pre-outs are used if you want to send the signal to another amp. Is this correct?

If so, I don't really see myself using them anyway so while it might be nice to have I prolly won't use them.

I have read a few reviews that say the GUI is much nicer than the old version.

I'm not sure what it looks like because I haven't seen it live yet.

My 1st Yamaha, only had it a week. Replaced Okyno SR-606. I'm happy so far with sound and features.
1st thing I noticed is almost no heat is produced from the Yamaha nothing like the space heater 606.

Yup, sure did. I posted that I bypassed the switch and made a direct ethernet connection to the receiver and still no dice.

So has anyone been able to summarize the advantages of the RX-v671 over the RX-v867?

From all of the threads I've read here on both models, the 671 is newer with:

1. Better GUI than the 867
2. USB port (867 does not)
3. Better Networking capability?

Is that pretty much it or are there more?

Pricing Differences:

Vendor ------------- 671 ---- 867

Yamaha MSRP: ---- $599 ---- $899
NewEgg: ----------- $549 ---- $429
BestBuy: ---------- $549 ---- $799

So, the 671 is newer, with a better price, unless you buy from NewEgg, in which case, the older 867 is better priced. However, why is the older 867 priced higher at BestBuy and have a higher MSRP from Yamaha? Even though it's older, is it a better unit?

If the 671 is a better unit, I have no problem paying the additional $120, but I just want to make sure I get the better unit, and I'm having a hard time comparing/understanding the differences between the two.

The fact that the 867 has 7.1 preouts so that you can add external amplification if needed...not available on the 671. Also Dual HDMI outputs and 7.1 analog inputs. Some of those features may not matter to you though.

Best buy had the 867 on sale for 549 for a month. They took it off sale a week ago or so. Don't ask me why!

What are the advantages of having the dual HDMI outputs and the 7.1 analog inputs?

Are these the only advantages over the 671 other than the preouts?

The $429.00 for the 867 at Newegg expires on 06/29/11.

I can't see myself using the pre-outs because if the internal amps fail I'll prolly just get a new receiver.

I can't see using the 7.1 analog inputs. I take it these are used if you hook another processor into it?

The Dual HDMI outputs would be cool if I wanted to hook it up to another TV / Monitor but I don't. I could also just buy a splitter.

I do however think that I would use the web browser control quite a bit.

Am I missing something? Comments?

The 867 and the 671 both use the same web browser control.

The 671 includes the USB interface and uses half the power of the 867 when in standby.

Hello All

After much back & forth between some models...mainly the Denon AVR-891 and Yamaha RX-V667 I'm happy to announce I'm the proud soon-to-be-here owner of a 671. I just put my order in from OneCall thru Amazon. They had a "like New" open box with manuals and warranty at $440.00. I had a $70 credit with Amazon so aftet grabbing it and a wall mount for the Sony 52" Z5100 my total came in at $405.00.

I really liked the RX-V667. Reviews were glaring and solid and it fit the budget. I knew about the 867 deal but it's with Newegg and plus I still need to grab a Harmony remote. And the 867 was a bit to much receiver just like the Denon AVR-991 which I could've grabbed for $585...(has a whopping 650w consumption!!!).

but I feel good about the 671 with newest stuff, network, USB, 125w at 7.1, upgradable firmware, about every sound field out there, DLNA certified, use with WMP 11 and Windows 7, a Yamaha App and more.

So it looks like I'll be hanging out here instead of the "Yamaha 667" and "Denon AVR-891" offical threads.

From Yamaha's web page:

RX-V671RX-V671 - Advanced Graphical User Interface with Status

RX-V867RX-V867 - Graphical User Interface

I'm sure they might describe them different even though they are the same.

I would also guess that they could update the GUI via a firmware update.

Are you sure they are the same GUI?

Thanks!

I just ordered my last night. Looking forward to getting it. I'm going from a really old Sony receiver (13 years old) to this. Should be a bit of an upgrade for me lol

Just pulled the trigger at NewEgg.

Wavered a lot between just getting an Onkyo HT-S8400 or the Yamaha RX-V867 or the 671. Finally decided on the 671 and the Martin Logan MLT-2 at NewEgg. Price for the speakers is a great deal and the 671 comes w/a $150 gift card for NewEgg. Not bad.

Can't wait to hook this all up!!

Nice!

Thanks for telling us of the $150.00 gift card. I LOVE Newegg.

I also pulled the trigger, and bought a RX-V671 after seeing the nice little bonus of the $150 gift card pop up on Newegg. It kind of worked out perfectly, seeing as how I plan on adding a 2TB iOmega cloud drive to my home network in the next few weeks.

I've had Yamaha receivers for the last 10 years, and I've been nothing but happy with them. This will also be a nice way (excuse) to get my HTR-6260 into the bedroom and eventually get a setup in there with plasma/blu-ray.

My subwoofer is sitting in back of my TV. When I do YPAO on speakers system, it did not find the subwoofer. I get (W-2 warning message). What are my options? Can I move in front of the TV and do the YPAO auto process and then move it back behind TV and manually set the distance.

Make sure your sub is actually "on" before running YPAO, do not use an "auto-on" type setting on the sub. Set the sub's level to about 50% and try again. Do you hear any output from the sub during YPAO?

YPAO should always be run with the sub in it's permanent placement.

anyone have any experience with low-cost/low-noise fans for cooling a receiver behind a closed glass-door in an entertainment center?

Have used fans as you mention to cool Motorola and Pace DVRs but Yamaha AVRs run almost cold to the touch!

Guess I'll see after it arrives tomorrow

I'm sure there will be *some* heat building up behind that closed door.

I got some great info for cooling another portion of the cabinet (where my HTPC sits) here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...5#post20626685

Might consider running power to another fan on the other side of my cabinet to cool the 671 if needed.

Has Yamaha improved the Adaptive DRC in this version? In my last experience, it fell short compared to Dolby Volume and Audyssey Dynamic Volume.

Yes, I do hear sound from Sub during YPAO. I will try again with no "auto-on" switch and see what happen. Thanks.

My guess is that the USA version of the RX-V771 will be the RX-A710 [or second link], which will likely be announced with the remainder of the 2011 AVENTAGE lineup in August/September/October.

After days of diagnosing and cursing out everything under the sun, I ended up restoring my Fios router to it's default manufacture's settings and one by one began reconnecting xbox, ps3, android phones, iPad, RX-V671 etc. Now I can see my PC's music folder on my Yamaha. Now I can concentrate on getting a universal remote.
