So, my HDMI in and out have failed after just 2.5 years and I'm really bummed about what to do, if it's worth the hassle and cost of repair, etc. Went to use it yesterday and no-go. Had been using the standy-by pass through configuration with HDMI control / ARC enabled. Component in/out works but component in to HDMI out doesn't. HDMI in to HDMI out is also dead. HDMI to component out is dead but on-screen with component out works. ???

I've tried full reset (running 1.60 updated in December) without success - that mode also disables HDMI control.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Updated to firmware 1.60 a few months back. I have an issue now where instead of the on-screen volume, i just get a black box, it's really annoying.

Anyone every encountered that or know how to fix it?

Thanks!

Question Pandora stops playing

Hello,
There are multiple reports of this with many different fixes related to PC & media sharing.

I have a RXV-671

At different times the Pandora will just stop playing

Before the update I just performed I would get "Access Error"

Now the music almost pauses, and I have to open the APP ad click play.

Appreciate the help, have a party coming up and music shutting off is a bummer...

Thanks!

Could it be the same thing as when Pandora stops the music because it is waiting for you to confirm that you are still listening?

Hi,

I thought that too, however sometimes it stops after only 2 songs

How does the Yamaha notify you to confirm you are still listening?

I was referring to when you are listening on a regular computer.
Sorry for the confusion.

That happens to me also, really pisses me off! 1-2 songs on pandora then it craps out.

On the old firmware it worked so perfectly for hours too.

Reading back, it looks like if you contact support they'll send you the old firmware. I'm going to try a factory reset first though, lots of people say that seems to fix a lot of their problems.

I've had this problem the past few months. I think it is due to a timeout being too short in the V671 software accessing Pandora. The reason I say that is the behavior I see with my new solution.

Having become tired of Pandora quitting after a few songs, I bought a Chromecast device that plugs into an HDMI port on the back of the V671. I have a Harmony remote so I created 2 profiles, one that turned my TV & receiver on and one that just turned on the receiver. So using my phone I cast Pandora to the Chromecast and it works flawlessly. Not as convenient as just selecting Pandora on the receiver, but at least it works

The behavior I noticed is this. If I stop casting on my phone the song will still play to the end on the receiver. And I know that casting isn't really sending the song note by note (or video for that matter) to the Chromecast. Instead the phone sends messages about what it is playing and then Chromecast, probably with some help in the cloud, goes and retrieves it. And this gave me a clue about what I think is happening with the V671.

You've probably noticed that the V671 never dies in the middle of a song, but always at the end. So I think the V671 does something similar to what Chromecast does. It arranges with Pandora for a song to be sent to it, probably via a UDP connection. Near or at the end of the song, Pandora expects some type of handshake, but it doesn't come. The issue with the V671 seems to be time dependent, rare in the morning but more common in the evening. Which is when more people are online. So my guess is that either one of the packet with the handshake is dropped due to network congestion, or it is delayed long enough so that the V671 stops waiting. It then throws access error.

The Chromecast is much more reliable, so if this is the issue then they have a more fault-tolerant design than the V671.

Bad news.

I tried the factory reset, it didn't do a thing to help.

I'll probably just down-grade the firmware since I'm out of HDMI inputs for the chromecast solution and Pandora is the only internet radio I play.

Thumbs up

So I emailed Yamaha Support asking for the 1.47 firmware to fix my Pandora issue and I got an interesting reply I thought I'd share with you all:

Quote:
Thanks for your email. We are aware of a ongoing issue with our pre-2013 AV receivers being able to access Pandora. We are currently awaiting QA testing on a new firmware update which is supposed to restore this functionality. This update should be available in the next couple of weeks.
MAN I can't believe Yamaha is still pumping out firmware for such an old receiver! I'm impressed!

I've been having this issue, too, with my 775. It used to just stop after several songs, after a firmware update, it will halt in the middle of a song, then skip to the next and after some crap out completely. BUT I'm using a wifi router as a bridge for the Ethernet connection, not Ethernet right to my main router.

I would use the Pandora app and my Chromecast, but I dislike having to have the app running, with incessant visual ads on the device (or am I confusing with others?).

I have teh Google play music all access subscription, and use that almost exclusively. Much better, more reliable, than Pandora. And I'll never pay for Pandora for reasons not relevant here.

Hey guys, new to the board. I have the same issue with Pandora just stopping after 1-2 songs. Incredible annoying to have to tell it to replay when I'm in the middle of doing things. I have an email out to Yamaha for support but I thought I'd try here as well since I have no idea if or when they'll actually get back to me. Could anyone email me the 1.47 RX-V671 firmware? I would love some help to finally fix this receiver! It used to work so well with Pandora.

Thanks ahead of time!

Yamaha Support sent me the 06_06_15_Pre-Release firmware and so far zero problems with Pandora. It has been playing for the last hour with no issue.

I suggest anyone else who is having Pandora issues install this firmware: http://www.megafileupload.com/4O82/RXV671-0072.zip

Here is the process for a USB update:

1) Turn off the receiver
2) On the front panel, press and hold 'STRAIGHT', and turn on the receiver while holding the button
3) Press the 'PROGRAM' L/R button until "Update USB" is displayed
4) Insert the USB, then press 'INFO' to begin the update.

Good luck!

Thanks! The update fixed my issue with Pandora and Net radio.
I got a "file not found" message after the process, but it still worked.

As the latest US firmware is 1.60, is this 1.72 pre-release for US?
