The thread is named Pioneer VSX-1121-K Owners. As of today I became an owner of the VSX-1121. The only downside is I don't have a powered Subwoofer to go with this bad boy. I have 4 Polk Audio RM8 satellite speakers, a center speaker and 2 more RM8's packed away for the back surrounds. My old System was a Home Theater in a Box. And it came with a passive subwoofer. So needless to say it wont work with the VSX-1121.
Tale me what you think would be a good match for the Polk speakers I have already.
I my self was thinking of getting the Polk Audio DSW MicroPRO 1000 Subwoofer.

I upgraded my Polk subwoofer a few years back and went with an HSU VTF-2 sub. It is like night and day. HSU sub is extremely powerful and good deep bass. I highly recommend them. They have a variety of subs to choose from.

I would recommend either Sunfire or Velodyne. Both company's make excellent products. I'm running a Velodyne DD-10 and loving it! Have fun picking out a new sub!

My VSX-32 (which is really the VSX-1120) uses Marvell video processing and Burr-Brown PCM1691 audio DACs. It converts DSD to 88.2 KHz PCM. Does the VSX-1121 have the exact same internals and do the same thing in this regard? Or does it convert DSD to176.4 KHz, 24-bit PCM and use other audio DACs and video processing other than Marvell? Just curious. Thanks.

I will like to know the same things. I am considering parting with my 1120 in favor of the 1121.

Guys, this might be a dumb question. I am new to AirPlay. Trying to stream from iTunes on my Macbook Pro to this 1121 k receiver. However, I am not able to see my receiver listed in the "Devices" in iTunes. Yes, my receiver is connected to internet, and Pandora works fine. Yes, I have recent firmware. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not into compressed audio such as iTunes, MP3s, WMA, etc.. So if the extra features of the 1121 would only be of interest to those who use mobile devices, I wouldn't be interested in even considering the 1121/52. I know that the 1121 can do PQLS when bitstreaming, but I don't think there would be an audio difference whether PQLSing natively or as PCM. The only thing that would make me second guess my VSX-32 would be if the VSX-1121 converted DSD to 176.4 KHz. The way to check this is while sending a native DSD signal from your player, press the STATUS button on the VSX-1121 remote. It will first say DSD. Then it should give a number like 88.2 KHz or 176.4 KHz. If 88.2, then there would be no added benefit if you're not into compressed audio. As far as DSD being converted to 176.4 KHz, 24 bit PCM, if not possible with the 1121, you should get one of Pioneer's new universal players, which include the BDP-140, BDP-52FD, and BDP-53FD. These players will convert DSD to 176.4 KHz, 24 bit PCM. You'll get the same result whether using it with a VSX-1120/32 or a VSX-1121/52.

just so you are aware, there are many of us who use itunes, etc. with non-compressed music...

you are way too concerned about dsd conversion rate...

Because of my sight imparemnt, I cannot use any iGear, which is sad, considering its convenience! If uncompressed music fans can benefit from iGear, then more power to them and the new VSX-1121/52! So besides features which partain to mobile devices and PQLS bitstreaming, are there any differences between the VSX-1120/32 and VSX-1121/52?

In regards to the interface with windows 7, it is not nearly as nice as the Denon interface. With the Denon you can control all functions of the reciever on any computer in the house. With the pioneer you have no control of the receiver unless you use your iphone or ipad. The iphone app for pioneer is nice but why not allow you to also control the reciever with any windows PC? I will return the amp to Newegg but they will not give a refund only replacement. Please be advised that this amp appears defective and be warry of buying from Newegg as they will not accept returns for refunds.

Check your speaker connections. Make sure they are tight and if needed, recut and connect. YOu have a short somewhere in a speaker line.

If he had a short in the line the amp would not work at all. Did he try to play music or audio before running the speaker setup? If it plays but only shuts down when running the setup there is a defect. If it won't play at all the speaker wiring would be suspect.

NewEgg has the VSX-1121-K with promo code "PIO9X7" for $499.99. So if you want it don't wait, get it ASAP, these deals are known to be short and last 12 to 24 hours.

I'm having this same issue as well, all of my computers and idevices have home sharing turned on, we're on the same network, i've rebooted everything, and the receiver still doesn't show up in itunes or on the idevices as an airplay option. was thinking about going to get an apple tv real quick and see if that changes things but i figured the airplay functionality would work right out of the box....

FYI, JR will almost match this offer and if you are unhappy you can exchange for another product vs Newegg which I think is just a swap out only return policy.

I'm still debating between the 2, orbit den AVR-2312 is way to go?

Hooked up my VSX-1121-K today. Briefly played with H.M.G. which is kind of cool, but the UI sure is aweful. I doubt I'll use it much, as I have an ATV2 running XBMC for that kind of stuff. AirTunes is kind of cool in that when you fire up iTunes and select the receiver, it automatically changes to H.M.G, no need to change anything. That's kind of handy. I also could do Airtunes via ATV2 or Airport Express, but the fact that there is no need to toggle the receiver to an alternate input is nice.

Ran full MCACC and have flipped through a few channels on TV, some in regular stereo only, some Dolby Digital. The center channel seems to be way amped up on DD TV shows, so I may need to dial that back. Need to do testing with some actual movies and more TV broadcasts. It's kind of interesting as my Onkyo SR806 had the center channel way too quiet.

Anyway, not much else to report. I primarily need to do more experimenting with new sound modes and adjust individual speaker levels to my liking. I also need to read the MCACC thread and go through that procedure when I don't have as much activity in the house.

can someone who has gotten the airplay functionality of the receiver comment briefly on how they were able to get it working? i read through the manual, and as far as i can tell there's no setup required except for plugging in your ethernet cable :/

That's pretty much it for me. Plugged it into my network and the receiver shows up as a speaker option iTunes. I selected the receiver, hit play on a song and the receiver flipped over to H.M.G and music started to play.

I did update the receiver to the newest firmware before trying this, not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Hey guys,
I just got VSX-1121 and it was working ok with regular digital antenna. Today, I got U-Verse installed and I just want to confirm that when you set audio mode on U-Verse box to Surround Sound, you do get a lot of audio drop outs (regular stereo mode - everything seems to be ok). BTW, has anyone figured out a solution? I really hate to watch a nice movie and have 2.1 sound. Thanks.

I get the same with my denon avr3311 and onkyo tx nr709. Afraid it's uverse.

Try component and optical - it's helped with my denon to some extent.

I'm not a U-Verse customer (BrightHouse) but I had issues with one of my older Cable Boxes (SciAtl 8300HD) when using HDMI, namely with the resolution settings I defined not staying consistent, and I had to switch to component+optical. I think that was ultimately a software issue and I've since changed to a different box which works fine with HDMI.

But anyway, it's probably same deal with U-Verse boxes, software problems.

Jumped on the Newegg discount here finally as well!!! Glad I waited!! Woo hoo.. I'm replacing an older Yamaha that has done ok for me but got hit with lightning and HDMI ports no longer work.. strange huh.. but looking forward to the new features in the 1121 and going back to Pioneer which I believe is a top notch brand!

Hi Everyone

This may be a redundant question but I really am having a difficult time finding an answer.

With the 1121-k can a component input come back out via the HDMI output to the TV.

Thanks a lot for any help
