If you want the Denon remote to control your TV volume while in HDMI pass through mode, you will need to register your TV with the remote (p. 106) as the default setting is for a Sony TV. Sound fluctuations while watching TV can generally be tamed by setting the Dyn Vol setting (p. 82) to "Evening" as the default is "OFF." The Dyn Vol and Dyn EQ settings are adjustable only after running AUTO SETUP.

Thanks so much. I figured most of this out after reading the manual again.

I'm new to AV tech stuff but am a musician/audiophile who finally has the time to enjoy this stuff more. So I'm diving in as a newbie...
I want a Denon and am watching these new XX12 models... my question:
Which model will work best with AppleTV (I'll have Airplay features with that) and a Samsung LED TV (which provides pandora and other internet stuff). I want all the technology, Great sound quality especially, and enough power. Want 2 fully functional zones and won't need more than 5.1 for first zone.

I think i read on here that zone 2 on the 1712 won't pass digital audio to it? Since the AppleTV also has a miniplug (1/8 jack) could I hook up both optical and that miniplug to get all my streaming audio from the AppleTV sent to the Denon properly? Or would hooking up both sets of plugs pose potential problems?

Thanks for any input... I'd appreciate any other shortfalls with the 1712 that might make me change my mind. I don't mind paying more for something if it makes me happy, but don't want redundant technology with my setup. Is there any other reason I would need internet connectivity or USB that I'm not thinking of?

Hope this makes sense, thanks for any input!

AFAIK, neither the ATV 1 nor the ATV 2 has a stereo mini plug. If you have an ATV 1 it has HDMI and analog ports and the ATV 2 has HDMI and an optical port which you would need an optical to RCA adapter to pass audio to Zone 2 on the 1712. Upgrading to a model with networking allows you to install any firmware updates yourself as well as the capability to control the AVR using an iphone, ipad, or other smart phone.

It must be PCM 2.0 being input to the 3312CI.

Well a silver lining to all of the problems I've been having. I called J&R today to return my defective 1912 and am now waiting on the shipping lable. I was going to go pick up a new 1912 at Bestbuy (I'm tired of not having working surround!) when a little birdy told me to call ABT. After a phone call and a few minutes on the phone I ended up getting the 2112 for the same price that I had paid for the 1912. I may lose out on the instant gratification that bestbuy would have provided, but the 2112 is clearly the better deal for the same price.

AVR: Denon 2112
Speakers: EMP Tek e55ti, Center- EMP Tek e56ci, Side Surrounds- EMP Tek e55wi, Rear Surrounds- SVS Prime Satellites, Sub- SVS PC-12 Plus, SVS PC-13 Ultra
Display: BenQ w1070 on a 110in fixed screen
Blu-Ray Player: Sony BDP S6200;
Playstation 4

Even at the $70 higher MSRP, the 2112CI with Audyssey MultEQ XT is clearly still the better deal over the 1912.

I am thinking of buying some PSB speakers to go with my Denon 1912.

Just wanted to make sure the 6ohm PSB's wouldnt cause a problem with the 1912.

Just recently got a 2112. Its my first receiver. It's pretty nice. It seems to be somewhat buggy though. Wondered if anyone else noticed that?

Sometimes I cannot connect to the web interface... Sometimes it does not get detected for AirPlay... Sometimes it is detected but won't play over AirPlay. It also does a weird thing with my cable box. The cable box overlay menus, such as the bottom info bar with time and channel, are shrunk width wise. So it looks skinnier than normal.

Anyone else notice any weird things with the 2112? Is it just because it is a new model? Is it likely there will be firmware updates to resolve this?

Thanks!

Does anyone know if the Denon 3312 will play iTunes format songs? I was thinking of getting a NetGear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 and loading it with my iTunes folder, but wanted to see if the Denon would be able to play iTunes (M4A and AAC coded files).
Thanks.

I'm trying to determine if I need the networking features offered on the new AVR-XX12 receivers. I understand the benefit of geting the firmware updates for the receiver, but otherwise am not sure how useful the streaming and network connectivity will be. I already have Pandora and can stream Netflix via my Samsung blueray. I have it hardwired to ethernet. The blueray offers other apps also (Facebook, etc.) but I haven't used any of them yet. I can also view photos that reside on my PC via the blueray. Is there any advantage to having the receiver perform these network functions? Also, can the receiver stream the Netflix?

If you already have access to these streaming services then the value of this specific feature would probably be minimal.

If you have multiple zones set up, one advantage is the ability to stream different content to each zone. Your blu-ray player could stream Pandora to zone 1 while your receiver streamed Rhapsody to zone 2. With a single zone setup, the advantage is that you wouldn't need to turn on your blu-ray player or your TV to use the music streaming services. Finally, adding your receiver to your network would allow you to control it remotely from a web browser or say, the Denon smartphone app.

There is no access to Netflix at this time, but I can't say I'll be missing it.

I now have access to Netflix (and most other streaming services) via my Samsung TV, the HTPC connected to it, the Xbox 360, my phone, my laptop, and my desktop... It's getting a little crazy. At this time neither our fridge nor our washer/dryer feature Netflix streaming, but they are all Samsung so it's probably just a few months away.

Denon AVRs are designed to work with 6Ω speakers so there should be no issue. The more important spec is the efficiency/sensitivity of the speakers. As long as it's 87db+ you should be fine.

Keep in mind that at these lower levels, Pioneer and Onkyo offer "features" but Denon will generally still provide better "audio fidelity" so make your choice based on which is more important to you as each person is different. Unless MCAAC has been updated in the new 2011 models, it cannot EQ the sub as MultEQ and MultEQ XT can do. You would be better served to demo both models together to determine which you prefer the best.

I stopped by BB/Magnolia this morning to use a $5 RZ cert and to see if they knew when 3312s would be showing up. They looked in the computer and don't have an estimated arrival date, nor can they request them from the warehouse yet.

i've read several places that "calling" some of the Denon authorized dealers can get you somewhat of a discount even on the brand new models. 6thAve and Electronics Expo have been referenced. has anyone got below msrp on a 2312 ? i think they ship today (6-2-11) ?

Can the same same deals be had in-store, or is it an online only thing? i hate calling places, i'd rather visit a store. I've had pretty poor experiences the few times i've been in 6th Ave and Expo - but i'm willing to suffer through their salesmen's nonsense if it saves me a bunch of loot and i can walk out the door with the product.

thanks

You need to set HDMI Control (p. 89) to YES and then set the Standby Source to the HDMI jack # that the cable/sat box is plugged in to.

The Denon AVR-4311CI has a MSRP = $1999.99

ONLY QTY. TWO (2) LEFT RIGHT NOW THIS DATE 6/2/2011 @ 9:50AM PT
It really is not necessary to continue to advertise this as the 4311CI has been selling for the same 25% off MSRP discounted price which you received at several of the regular on line authorized resellers ever since it was first released last Oct.
