Looking at this authorized dealer list: http://usa.denon.com/us/wheretobuy/p...eetailers.aspx I assume I'd be better off paying $10 more from B&H than from Buy.com (or Ebay) for a new 1712.

One month owner of the 1912 here, and while I'm very happy with it, I sort of which I'd gone for a little more power. I wasn't thrilled with the owner manual (on CD) or the remote control that came with it, but they'll do.

I decided to step up to the 2112 from the same seller on Ebay. I like the features. Only 360 shipped for refurb! 1 left.

Hi,

My buddy just bought the Denon 3312ci. When we were setting it up, he called Denon and they told him to put it on LFE+main. All of his speakers on Definitive Tech and all set to small. Seems from everything I read, this should be set to LFE. Should I have him change this to LFE?

Thanks, Jerry

Have you read Batpig's Denon guide? If not, Google Batpig Denon and you will find it.

It doesn't matter, although no reason to change from the factory default of LFE. When the front mains are set to SMALL (as they should be), the sub setting of LFE+MAIN does not apply, rather only whan the speakers are set to LARGE. Unfortunately, Denon CSRs are a 3rd party company and often are not trained well enough to provide the correct and accurate information.

Yes. This was fixed with a firmware update last summer.

You will likely find some improvement in that MultEQ can EQ the sub whereas the Pioneer cannot. The difference between MultEQ and XT is likely to be more subtle depending on the quality of your speakers. However, if you are located in the USA, the difference in cost between the 1912 and 2112CI from Electronics Expo is generally only $20-$50 which makes it a no brainer to get the 2112CI, for the better Audyssey version, extra year of warranty, and the ability to SAVE the config file to a PC so you don't have to rerun AUTO SETUP again if for some reason you have to do a microprocessor reset.

It could be an issue with your network so try resetting the router and if the AVR isn't directly connected to the router via cable, try that as well.

Not at all ... the fact that you can do 8 mic positions confirms it's XT and not regular MultEQ.

I am trying to determine whether the HDMI ARC supports 5.1 audio sourced by the TV tuner, or whether I have to run a separate TOSLINK fiber to get the audio from the OTA HDTV tuner back to the AVR2112.

ARC will send 5.1 audio from the internal tuner to the receiver. Follow the Sammy's instructions for turning on Anynet+ and connecting to HDMI2. Be sure you turn on HDMI-CTL on the Denon. It is off by default.

The ebay seller you purchased from is NOT an authorized reseller of Denon refurbs (they made a one time purchase from Denon and all units sell with a reduced 90 day warranty). Suggest you purchase a 3rd party warranty from them as well. Also note there are only 4 authorized refurb resellers as noted in the link below. When purchasing from them you will get a full 1 year warranty from Denon.

Yes and no. You always take a chance when buying from an unauthorized reseller as Denon will not honor the warranty if you need any repairs, so if you choose to go that route, as suggested above, get a 3rd party extended warranty.

That said, the best prices on Denon AVRs (new) are from several authorized resellers that provide discounts to include AV Science, Electronics Expo, and J&R. Give them a call and ask for their best price and you'll likely get a brand new unit for the same price the refurbs are going for.

Unless you have your AVR volume knob maxed out, the additional power in even the 3312CI would have been moot. Rather you would need to add an external amp with at least 250W or more.

I recently upgraded from a Onkyo 607 to a Denon 2312, and for the first time ever I'm running into HDMI handshake-setting issues.

The devices having issues are

PS3 Slim - Black screen, no video, no audio. I've turned off Deep Color Output, and set the HDMI settings to "Manual" at 1080i,p, and 720p.

Samsung Time Warner Cable Box - I get Audio, but Video is displayed as grey/white and black flickering. Restarting the box, and receiver seems to resolve this most of the time.

Is there a setting in the Denon that would make it a bit more compatible with other devices?

My worry would be that I get a receiver that needs that firmware update, but I'm screwed because I have to pay for shipping to get that update (thereby nullifying any savings from getting a refurbished unit).

Just a FYI, J&R had these for under $300 bucks and not refurbished. I got a demo from a local store for less. I hope no firmware date is needed.

Quick questions everyone...

Is there a quick and easy way to refresh content when connected to a media server?

Issues with a cable box are quite common (with any brand) and can be worked around by bypassing the AVR with HDMI to the TV and optical to the AVR. Issues with the PS3 are less common and video issues are usually resolved by setting the Deep Color Output to OFF as you have already done. You may want to try replacing the HDMI cables for both sources as well as connecting each source to each of the HDMI inputs on the AVR to see if one works better than another.

Now that I purchased a refurbished 2312, Its hard to tell if the unit is defective. The cable company has already told me they can't help further.

Using HDMI+Optical for every device isnt an option because I dont have enough optical ports.

I was also told that all high-speed HDMI cables are the same and it shouldn't matter. Herm...

Anyway, changing the cable didnt help; the screen either flashed solid green, or snow/black.

I'm now working on a return... but am skeptical of going Denon again and ending up in the same spot.

My Cablebox is a Samsung HMT-8272 if that helps.

I have a new Denon AVR 1912 hooked up to two old Tannoy 611s and some no-account old tiny Cambridge speakers for surrounds and a Sunfire sub. No center speaker. I know it's a Frankenstein setup, but it's what I got.

Problem: In 5.1 video, while imaging is great -- dialogue sounds like it comes straight from center -- center volume is too low. Dialogue is hard to hear when music and effects are just right.

I could buy a center speaker, but I can't find a 611 center anymore. I don't really want to replace the 611s with a new surround setup (I love the Tannoys, and can't afford to replace them anyway). If I get a center from another vendor, will Audessey be able to balance it out so it sounds good?

Or is there a way to fix the phantom center level? I've tried all the movie "modes" and all they have the same volume problem. Dialogue sounds great in multi-channel stereo, but then it's not exactly localized right, obviously.

Thanks AVSF gurus.

Using HDMI+Optical for every device isnt an option because I dont have enough optical ports.

I wasn't suggesting for "every" device, rather only the cable box. As I said, PS3's generally don't have issues with Denon AVRs.

Not true. The quality of the cable matters.

When movies/TV make up the majority of your listening, you will be much better served with a dedicated center speaker of equal quality to the front mains and ideally from the same mfr; however, if not, Audyssey will still do a good job at EQing it in your environment.

so when you said "thank you sir" was that just to acknowledge receipt? because if you had read it, how could you have missed the "What's the deal with the "LFE" setting?" question right?

.... bustin' your chops a bit. 120Hz is the correct setting.

I have a Sony BDP-S380 hooked up to AVR2312 via HDMI. Whenever I play audio CD there is no sound (audio) and I have to switch the INPUT SOURCE and switch back in order to get sound (audio). But have no issues while playing DVD or Bluray disc.

Please help!

Ill look into replacing the refurb 2312. Thanks!

I have a different question:

With the Onkyo 607, I had the ability to lower the "Bass" to -2. I cant seem to find this setting in the 2312. Although - I can find them for Zone 2.
