You can stream video and photos over AirPlay only to AppleTV 2s.

Is it because of the Denon firmware that videos and photos cannont be streamed over Airplay? Will the future Denon firmware upgrade will enable this? I like the mirroring of iphone/ipad on TV but the cable costs USD43 while the AppleTV2 costs USD150 as I reside in Asia.

Nope ... it's because Apple hasn't licensed the above mfr's to support video, although if/when Apple does allow it, there is likely to be no firmware upgrade, rather only newer models would have the feature implemented.

If Apple has ambitions in TV as rumored, they may never license AirPlay streaming of video to 3rd parties.

I remember reading here but can't find it. The serial number is linked to manufacture date. How to interprete it (example serial number 111XXXXXX)? Thanks.

This is usually resolved by turning the iPhone OFF/ON.

The first digit is the year and the next two are the month ... so in your given example the AVR would have been mfr'd in Nov 2011.

The TV is about 7 years old and was one of their first models with HDMI so I'm not that surprised there are handshake issues.

I've been planning to get a new set with 1080P anyways, and this is the perfect excuse. I found a great deal locally on the Panasonic TC-P60ST30 and figured I would check on this thread before I pulled the trigger.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I've got a 2112CI connected to the same TV and there are no handshake issues that I've found. Had to change the settings for the HDMI control, and make sure the HDMI cables were connected to the correct respective jacks on the 2112 and Panny, to get the ARC working, but it's been solid overall.

I have a new denon 2112 and presently stream audio on my computer via a wireless bridge but would also like to stream videos. I was considering purchasing Apple TV and returning by wireless bridge but I do not know how to connect Apple TV to my system. The apple sales rep told me to connect apple tv directly to my TV and then use the monitor output connections to connect the sound to the receiver. I have a limitation with my Pioneer PD-5080 plasma tv as it does not allow the output function on digital inputs from HDMI or Component connections. Apple TV only has HDMI and component connections. Any ideas on how to connect Apple TV to my system or any other ideas in how to stream video would be appreciated?

The ATV (HDMI) can be connected directly to the AVR as another HDMI video source. You can then stream video to it using the ATV Airplay feature.

if your prime aim is to stream then get WD Live it has better codec support, plays almost all formats and it can be connected to ur AVR directly, apply tv will give you a lot of problems

Installed the 2112Ci this weekend to replace my 4 years old Pioneer Elite. I thought it was a downgrade in exchange for HDMI 1.4a support but as it turns out, My setup sounds better with the Denon thanks to Audysee MultiEQ XT and DynEQ. I am impressed with the overall sound quality.

I am looking for pics of the GUI with the 2312. Specifically the channel level adjustment. Dose the menu entirely block out the screen or is it translucent enough to make adjustments "on the fly" during shows?

I have the 1910 which doesn't have hdmi GUI so i can adjust the center channel or sub during movies on the receiver screen.

not sure if this is a silly question but say if I want to use my ps3 which is linked to the game HDMI on the 1912 input do I have to have the denon turned on to view it on the tv or is there a way to have a passthrough so I can just see it on tv without having the denon turned on?

if you are concerned about the wife yelling at you for tweaking while she is trying to watch then it will be an issue, the GUI does block out most of the screen.

the best bet if you want stealth changes is to use your laptop or smartphone/table to make channel level changes via the web browser interface.

The Apple sales rep was a moron, then.

Just connect HDMI from the AppleTV to your AVR, same way you connected your Blu-ray player (and probably your satellite box). ATV > HDMI > AVR > HDMI > TV.

The ONLY way to stream video via AirPlay, if that is your goal, is via the AppleTV. At this point, at least. Apple has not licensed AirPlay VIDEO for any other company, just AirPlay Audio.

If you're just pushing video in various formats from your computer to your AVR/TV, then saj2001ind is correct that there are other devices that support more file types (although not via AirPlay). And AppleTV's interface is truly a thing of beauty... others have a LOT of catching up to do in that regard. He's also wrong about "issues" with the AppleTV, however, it worked fabulously, within it's feature set. If you want features that aren't included in it's feature set, that's not an "issue" with the AppleTV, that's an "issue" with the person who bought the wrong device to accomplish their goals.

True, although other devices also do this (and better that the WD unit, IMO), such as the Roku, and everything can be connected to the AVR directly, that's not some special unique WD feature.

I own and use both Apple Tv2 and WD live. Apple Tv has a really nice interface for Music and Movies but as Apple does, it imposes their proprietary codecs so if you have a library or thinking of it that isn't in their codecs it renders it nearly useless for Video.

Now WD live has a ton of codecs and plays nearly everything and has great interface for Video. That being said the interface for Music is terrible with no really way to make a playlist on the fly. This is why I use both.

My advice is unless you have iTunes Movies (using their codecs) don't bother with the Apple Tv unless you really want a nicer interface for Music.

For Video non Apple you will need a different 3rd party hardware which there are many such as boxee box rouko etc ... or software like tversity etc..

BTW Apple Tv2 has a Jail Break (legal) that has xmbc that you can stream your local files (Movies Photos) through the Apple Tv2 device. I haven't tried yet but if I do I will let you all know how good or bad it works.

I just bought an Onkyo receiver after about 10 years with a Sony STR-DA2ES. It sounds good and I think its working properly. My problem is I don't like how the Onkyo clicks its relays when disabling the center and rear amps (ie going from a multichannel mode to stereo or back again) and how slow it is to detect a dolby digital signal (ie after fast forwarding the dvr, I miss a few seconds of audio when the show resumes). The Sony was nearly instantaneous in finding a dolby signal when set to AFD (auto format decode). How do you think a Denon will be in this arena? Do you think it would be worth swapping them out? I had narrowed it to the Onkyo I now have and a Denon, specifically the 2312. I don't like anything Sony is currently making, although I've been happy with their stuff historically. Otherwise, I would just get another one.

Thanks for your input.

Hi all,

Been lurking here for a while eversince I got my AVR 1612. Tons of useful information here.

Just have a quick question here. I have successfully connected my set top box and confirm that I am able to receive the 5.1 broadcast from my Set Top Box HD channel. Currently for the program that broadcast in 5.1, I am watching it with Dolby Pro Logic surround mode in my AVR 1612.

If I am understanding this correctly (sorry a total newbie here), Dolby Pro Logic is used to simulate surround sound from a stereo broadcast. So if this is correct, do I mess up the 5.1 sound from my Set Top Box by setting it to Dolby Pro Logic in my AVR ?? Is there anyway I can hear the 5.1 broadcast as is from my Set Top Box.* I read in one of BatPig post that I need to hit the Standard or STD button in my AVR remote in order to do this. But my AVR remote doesn't seem to have that button. I have tried the Direct button but doesn't seems to work.
*
Anyone can enlight me with this ????

The Standard (STD) button is not used on the XX12 AVR remotes, rather you'll want to press the MOVIE button and select DD PLII when a SD channel is playing to simulate 5.1 while a DD 5.1 will play as DD 5.1, although note that not all stations will broadcast a DD 5.1 audio track even though the show is advertised as being in DD 5.1.

Saj2001ind, Kalani and Spager - thanks for your advice. You have simplified my problem and saved me a ton of time. I am now going to look into the various media servers

Thanks smoothie,

Another questions, if a HD 5.1 channel is in deed broadcast from my Set top box while the surround mode in the AVR is set to DD PL II, will the 5.1 override the Dd PL II setting in AVR or will the 5.1 signal be altered in some way by the surround mode.

thanks for the patience. I am total newbie here. might don,t know exactly what I am talking about.
