I like 2 channel stereo, but what about 5-channel stereo listening? I do not see any of these new Denons with that feature. 2112, 2312 or 3312. I have the 1911 and it does not have it. What am I missing?

All Denon AVRs offer 5 CH Stereo going back many years. The feature is called "Multi-Channel Stereo Mode." The "5 CH Stereo mode" feature is not checked because these are 7.1 AVRs and not 5.1 AVRS.

JDS: I cannot find this "multi-channel stereo mode". It appears that only 2 ch mode is the only option. any suggestions?

If you are referring to your 1911, check p. 30 in your Owner's manual or press the SIMULATION button on the remote until "Multi CH Stereo" is displayed.

Ok... Real basic question here.

I am streaming Lord of the Rings on Netflix on my Sharp 732U TV and playing the audio through my 1912 using the ARC HDMI connection. In Direct audio mode, I am only getting sound through the front L and R speakers. Is it possible (hard to believe) that the original content on Netflix is not available in some advanced surround mode? Or do I need to pick one of the other surround sound modes available under the Movie setting?

I know Netflix is multi channel on the PS3 and is expanding to other sources, although may still only be stereo on your TV. If only stereo, then you'll have to use DD PLII to simulate 5.1 audio. Although not sure why you would be using the DIRECT mode rather than either DD PLII or Dolby Digital as DIRECT mode doesn't provide you the benefit of using Audyssey.

Just got my 1912 hooked up Audyssey and all. Sounds good. I read all the posts on here but have a couple of questions. I have my Panny hooked up with ARC. Ps3 and cable box with hdmi and both tv and avr hooked up to a router wired. Now, the tv gets internet but no sound from tv to avr. The avr can't hook up to the internet at all. And occasionally if I switch inputs or use the gui, when I go back to the cable box, I get intermittant snow until I power the avr off and on again. Any ideas?

Ok I am trying to make sure I understand this correctly.

I am looking at a 1912 or 2X12, and want AirPlay in Zone 2 to stream from iOS or my server (to outdoor speakers). Can Zone 2 stream AirPlay while using another input (say the tv) in Zone 1?

I thought I read conflicting posts in this thread that state AirPlay would have to be on both zones, not just Zone 2 by itself, though it is late and I am only slightly coherent right now.

Thanks for any help!

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are any AirPlay or DLNA (or other issues) that would come up if you had two identical 3312 units on the same network?

I have a HT setup I need the two HDMI outs for (HDTV + Projector) and I also have an older receiver in the living room (used for audio only) that needs to be replaced.

We'd like to be able to AirPlay and DLNA to the living room receiver and having HD radio would be nice so I've actually landed on the 3312 as the right unit for both setups (even though I don't need any of the video features in the living room receiver) Can anyone think of any issues likely to come up? Alternatively, can anyone recommend another receiver that would support AirPlay, DLNA and HD radio other than the 3312?

instead of splurging for another expensive receiver just to get Airplay support, why not add something like an Apple TV or Airport Express to the living room setup for streaming purposes? Then you can use any old receiver for the secondary setup.

As far as we know -- although AFAIK nobody has posted on this thread to confirm for sure -- the Airplay functions just like the xx11 models: it does stream to Zone 2, but it CANNOT do so independently of main zone, i.e. it "hijacks" the main zone in order to stream. So you are more coherent than you think

HDMI Control (p. 86) must be set to ON for ARC to work. Factory setting is OFF. Internet connectivity begins with Web Control (p. 66). Snow would indicate you may need to replace the HDMI cable. Quality HDMI cables can be purchased (~ $5) at forum sponsor Monoprice.

I have Monoprice cables, but a loose connection might have been the culprit. I started trying to connect to the internet with the wizard and kept getting connection failed. I'll look into it a little more after work tonight. Thanks for the help!

If they hold true to previous year Denon AVR's there will be no issue. They are independent and show as two devices in the Denon app, AirPlay and network. In my setup I manually assign ip addresses two both so I can easily always pull up the web ui for ultimate control and configuration.

In search of video bliss...

I tried the PS3 - however, I only get 2 channel audio on the PS3 as well for Lord of the Rings. I'll do some more experimentation today with some BD material to make sure it isn't a settings issue at either end (source or 1912), but I've gone into every menu and verified things, so not sure what the cause could be, other than the possibility that not all content is multichannel (although it is hard to believe how a fairly recent movie like LOTR couldn't be).

As far as direct vs. DD PLII is concerned, I need to be educated a bit here. Setting the Audyssey question aside for a bit, I thought that Direct would give me the original audio and if it was in whatever surround mode it was recorded in, it would be fine. Now for the education part - if I select Movie Mode or whatever and do DD PLII or DD, is the information encoded in the 2 channel information from the source material and is decoded by the 1912 and sent to the appropriate channels? I guess I need to read up on how the amplifier turns what seems to be 2 channel source material into surround. TIA!

Have you done the obvious - connected a laptop to the port and make sure the in-wall cabling and the RJ45 connectors are all working properly? I am sure you have but just thought I'd throw it out there for consideration.

I have 1911, but will getting the 2312 or 3312 end of May.

My question is that when running Audessey Auto-set up and selecting "large" for front speakers (I have B&W 684), should I select "small" for front speakers and let my sub (B&W ASW610) distribute the bass? Or how does this situation play out?

Step way up to 3312CI and make it all worth while. Set ALL speakers to SMALL, LFE Only (No LFE+Main) at 120Hz., and Xovers at 80Hz. See how that sounds, and then open up your LPF's on your sub all the way, and let the sub handle everything 80Hz. and down.
