I posted this on a separate thread but nobody seemed to be even reading my post, since I am interested in the new SR6006 I thought this would be relevant to this thread.
I recently purchased a decent home theater about 6 months ago, I originally did not wanted to spend a whole lot on the AV Receiver in order to spend the most of my budget on great sounding speakers to my ears (that'swhy I got the Sony STR - DH810 as my receiver). I currently have a 5.1 speaker system with Bose 301's as my main front speakers (I know you guys do not like Bose equipment but those speakers are fairly priced and sound pretty good) a boston acoustics cs225c center channel, a JBL ES150P subwoofer and 2 Bose 161 for surround speakers. I know it is a modest setup but it's sounds decent. I recenty bought a marantz cd5004 player (still in the mail waiting) and a pair of decent spec rca cables to go with it. I currently have a ps3 (the fat one with no SACD, and no ps2 backwards compatibility), apple tv (2nd gen), sky HD all hooked up via HDMI to the receiver, as well as an xbox 360 (original pro one, with no hdmi) hooked up via optical to the receiver and via component to an HDTV (the tv is not relevant for my question so I will not look up the model) and a slim ps2 connected to the receiver via optical and composite video. I have what you would consider a medium sized room (maybe a very big small room) with decent acoustics (big furniture and a very small window). As you can tell by the equipment I have, I am into blu-ray, music, and video games. I can now afford a better receiver and I was thinking of the Marantz SR7005 or the SR6006. You may think it would be an overkill for my current setup, but I am particularly interested in these models because of the dedicated phono input (planning to get a decent turntable), 7.1 analog pre amp inputs (which make them more future proof), reduced THD (from the reviews I've read of the sr7005 it is pretty quiet and excellent for 2 channel music playback), more HDMI inputs (I like the sr6006 better for having a whopping 7 of them) and mostly because they seem like great future proof receivers because of the extra zones, dual hdmi outputs, 7.2 pre outs and such. My home theater room will eventually change in the next 5 years or so, probably getting married, getting a bigger place allowing a 7.2 setup and 2 extra zones for music. Is the upgrade worth it for my current setup, or I am I better off waiting it out until I live in the bigger place?
My main priority is music playback and movie watching. If I do update my receiver, bear in my mind that I do not want to upgrade the receiver again for at least 15 years.
If the audio quality playback, particularly music playback, will considerably improve with my current setup I will update without a doubt, but if I will only benefit with a larger room I think I am better off waiting.
Does anyone know if either of these receivers (sr7005 and sr6006) support "mixing" sources: listening to a cd while playing a video game?
Thanks a lot for your help,
