I personally am not too concerned about my Onkyo 5508 (knock on wood) but I have had very expensive pre-pro's that have had to have a lot of repairs so it's not like your immune from problems if you spend over $5K.

MJA --- there is a 6 month period of replacement to the DEALER from the time the DEALER rec'd it....NOT 6 month's from when the customer purchases it...JUST so u guys will know.

That's fast. I'm still waiting to get the dang mailing label from Onkyo. They sent it regular mail instead of emailing me one. Who does that any more?

Sympton: Touch the volume knob and the unit starts scrolling thru the different sound modes. Sometime by rotating the knob you can get it to stop. I told the customer don't touch the knob use your URC until parts come in. So far so good!

Is this a permanent fix? I am on the fence about getting a x008 or a Denon 4311 and frankly, if the fix is permanent, I would just get the Onkyo and an extended warranty and call it a day. But, extended warranty or not, I don't want to be stuck with equipment that needs to go in for repairs of a known issue multiple times.

The onkyo CSR told me they found some instock and will ship them to my service center ASAP. So hopefully, I can take my 808 back next week.

I think my unit may be getting sick. I found it turned on this morning - on the last input (iRadio) used and it said "play again" error.
This is the third time I've found the unit turned on by itself. Luckily it doesn't turn on in the middle of the night and wake me up.

It is 10 months old.

Just got off the phone with Vanns and got the same run-around. They show no known issues in their database and will not offer any type of refund/replacement.
The lady that I spoke with did however offer to investigate the issue. She wants me to email her the service bulletin the was put out by Onkyo however I cannot find it anywhere. Can someone post it here for me?

BTW my info is:
Model = TX-NR808
2. Purchase Date = 2/16/11, been using since.
3. Store = Vanns

Crutchfield service is sounding better all the time.

My NR5008 is going in today, No Remote. Everything else works.

I just purchased the DHC-80.2 + DTA-70.1 combo here in Australia, where Integra bits cost a *lot* more than in the US (especially given our dollar's superiority atm). Some small compensation is that we do get a 5 year warranty.

Frankly I don't care *so much* about the warranty, in terms of the fact that I just want something that works! When one hands over ~AUD$8,500!!! (I didn't pay that much, but that's the genuine RRP here in Aus, and yet the $AUD>$USD!), I do not expect to have to spend hours of my life disassembling it, packing it up and doing without it while it's sitting in a shop somewhere.

Given our finite lifespans together with how much they charge in Aus, I almost feel that it's just not cricket to ever have to go without after having forked over the massive spondoolies .

Now, at this point, everything is ridgeydidge and I am happy with it. However, it would appear that I have the dreaded '0' in the eighth slot.

So, what are the odds that I will stay happy with my decision, versus going ballistic? Are there any reliable stats to suggest what the odds are for immanent failure given the s/n?

Repair center said their are 2 cables that are effected. A long one in the 5008 and a short one in the X08 models. He said not a gel but an acid that eats away at the connector. Sometimes it starts eating away at the pins too. If they are pitted, they have to replace them too. They have the long cable in stock. Not the shorter one. He said he would have it fixed in 2 or 3 days.

Curious, does your unit have two HDMI output (Main & Sub) and a Power On (next to Phones jack) button?

Add me to the list with the remote/frozen/scrolling problem. Bought an NR708 in December, started the problems maybe 8 weeks ago.
I'm taking it that replacing the cable and connectors is the offical fix, has anyone gotten an offical Tech Bulletin number for the fix in case the repair shop hasn't run into this yet?

All the Authorized Servicecenter has to do is go to the Onkyo service site, go to that model #, and look under tech tips/bulletins/upgrades for all the answers. If they do not know how to do that...they will not b able to solder either !

4. Setting my BD player to "Auto" or "1080p" causes constant video flicker...happens for BD or standard DVD's. Onkyo said it was a defect, and to send unit back. Amazon sent replacement unit (2/12). Replacement unit did the same thing. Onkyo had me check a few things (to no avail). My personal workaround is to leave BD player set to 1080i and there are no flickering issues. Tried with another brand BD player...same thing happens. Audio scrolling happened a month or so after purchase.
5. Video flickering - immediately. Audio scrolling through input modes, can't even turn unit off without pulling plug - ~1 month. Happened infrequently at first, then more often. Finally got sick of it and took it authorized Onkyo Service Center.
6. Video flickering - constant, Audio scrolling - intermittent
7. Video flickering and Audio scrolling
8. Onkyo told me nothing other than it needed service. I took it in for service due to the last week of May, 2011, and got it back on
June 9, 2011. Repair place said flickering video & scrolling audio were related and the part that was replaced (system board?) would take care of both issues.
9. Video flickering never resolved, audio scrolling came back 30 minutes ago. June 18, 2011.
I'm mad as hell and calling Onkyo Monday morning.

I will never buy another Onkyo.

Having the same problems posted here:
- bought the unit from accessories4less April 25.
- Installed and operating May 14
- light use (3-4 hrs week)
- 2 week vacation Jun 3 - 17
- Jun 18 turned on to watch Battle LA, unit became unresponsive to remote or panel buttons

Frustrated (as we all are) that resellers and manufacturer are not more supportive beyond, ship it back and we'll repair.

Was advised by reseller to ship it to 'regional' service center....hmmm Houston to Michigan, that's convenient.

Guess I'll ship it, replace it and sell it when it returns. No confidence in this unit or Onkyo at this point. Suggestions for replacement unit?

I had cancelled my 809 pre-order and gone with another brand. Was considering buying the Onkyo as a video processor. However my friend that did stick with his 809 pre-order is now (2 weeks later) having issues. Started with hdmi source flashing on and off, progressed to changing inputs on it's own, and last night while we were watching a sporting event it froze. No response from remote or front panel. Reset and was fine for 15-20 minutes then froze. Reset then again about 5 minutes later. Reset and then was fine for the rest of the evening.
15 day return window to retailer is now over so now time to deal with Onkyo. Blah.
