So after 2 1/2 years of having the 709, I'm just starting to try to use the DLNA function. Most of my music files are on my ASUS PC, on the D: part of the hard drive (and important ones backed up to the Cloud). When I access DLNA, it shows my PC on the network, and then Music, and then Folders, only the C: and Shared Music appear, not the D:, although the Folder I want is on D: and has even been added to my Music Library. How do I get to D: and this Folder. And if I moved it all to an EHD, would it have trouble finding it there, too?

"How do I get to D: and this Folder?"

"Setup that drive/folder to share in my computer under hdd D: otherwise you can't see it on network"

Got it! Had to share both the d: and the Folder itself.

That's what I love about these Forums. Whether I'm getting advice about my cars, computers or A/V or helping someone else out, these are wonderful resources!

Thanks.

Has anyone managed to identify why and when the NR709 display "Multich" instead of DTS/Dolby Digital? It clearly decodes the signal correctly and everything sounds fine, but the display is just a generic "Multich".

The device or source I assume is connected via Hdmi so change the divide from pcm to bitstream.

It's an HTPC connected through HDMI. Using the same players (PowerDVD 14, PotPlayer, Zoom Player Pro and others), the encoding of some files is displayed correctly by the receiver, but for others it just shows "Multich". I configured the players to pass-through the audio to the display. Is this what you mean?

I'm having an issue playing netflix through the WiiU, audio shows up as Multichannel with no surround sound. Flipping through the various presets makes no difference until it gets to all channel stereo. It's connected by HDMI and I'm sure there must be a setting I'm missing as I don't remember this problem before sending it in for the recall and it being factory reset. I didn't use the WiiU for netflix much until our bluray player died so maybe I'm wrong and it never decoded to surround.

I was thinking more of the lines of you having a ps3-4 usually you see this issue but a pc you will need codecs I believe there is a thread/site to remedy this but I don't remember the site/program will do some hunting!

So I see this post on the main forum board:

As part of our commitment to quality and customer service we have determined that a limited number of Onkyo Brand receivers manufactured between 2009 and 2012 may experience loss of audio or loss of network connection. This malfunction has been traced back to a defective network chip.

With that said, if I buy an Onkyo TX NR709 today, is it safe to assume it has been manufactured after 2012 and that I shouldn't have any of the problems that occurred between 2009 and 2012?

My local HHGREGG has one on clearance for $400.

Thanks for any advice!

I strongly doubt it but you could get the serial # and enter it in the site and see if a repair comes up, buy for 400 and get it repaired for free and like new!!!

Any ideas why I can't get any surround modes to work from lpcm multichannel through netflix app on WiiU? I only get sound from surrounds if I select all channel stereo. WiiU only outputs stereo lpcm when using the netflix app.

“Multich” typically means that the receiver is receiving PCM audio. This means that the decoding has already been done before the sound arrived at the receiver, or you are passing an LPCM track to the receiver. The software you are using must be capable of bitstreaming the DD or DTS tracks to the receiver. For TrueHD or DTS-HD tracks, you will need to be connected via HDMI. I know that PowerDVD has the option to switch the audio from being decoded by the software to bitstreaming directly to the receiver. Assuming proper drivers are installed, you have everything connected properly, and you have a lossless or high resolution track available, PowerDVD should display the additional option to bitstream the HD audio via HDMI on the audio tab of the options menu. I’m still using PowerDVD 12, and it only shows the additional option if there is an HD audio track available and selected. With PCM tracks, you may need to make sure the driver settings are set to the correct number of channels in order to get sound through all the speakers. This does not appear to be necessary for DTS-HD or Dolby tracks that are bitstreamed. “Multich” is normal if you are passing an LPCM track or a DD or DTS track that has been decoded by software on your computer. Some movies actually include a PCM track, so it may be perfectly normal to see this for those movies even if bitstreaming.

I just received a letter from SiriusXM that "an update is required for your streaming player...as of September 30 your streaming radio or receiver will not be able to play the enhanced streaming service without the update."

Anyone else get this? Any idea of a firmware update? I've also posted this on the Onkyo fb page.
