I realize I am more than a day late and probably quite a few dollars short, but this thread helped me set up my STR-DH820. I was stumped as to why I couldn't get any DTS out of my Sony BDP-S3100. I made sure the Blu-ray player was set up properly and couldn't figure out why DTS wasn't working properly. Then streamstree pointed out the TV+AMP setting. I changed this to AMP only and voila! Everything is working as it should -- 96/24 files aren't being downsampled to 48 and DTS-HD MA is showing up as it should over HDMI.
It sucks that the receiver can't dynamically adjust this setting (like passing through HDMI audio while in standby mode) because sometimes I want to be able to watch the Blu-ray player on TV without having to dig into the receiver's settings to re-enable TV+AMP. But, being the geek that I am, I'll keep poking around to see if there's a reasonable work-around.
At least now I know how to get it 100% working.
