I can pick up this unit for 250... I haven't been able to find many opinions/reviews on this unit. Has anyone here had any experiences with it? also is this a good deal in your opinions?

As long as you don't plan on using the HDMI, it is a great receiver. The "horribleness of the HDMI" is well known...and probably why you can snag it for that price.

That and the original remote has probably never been used once initial set-up was done, cause the remote is easily one of the worst ever for an HDMI receiver. The remote with the 1058 was good 20+ years ago...problem is, the 1058 isn't 20+ years old.

What are the hdmi problems with it? Does it make it completley inoperable? because that is somerhing that i will not be able to live with out. What about the tx sr 875? I know about the heat problems, my rack is wide open so this should alleviate that. Would this be a better buy at the same price?

An immensely better buy. I have the Integra DTR 8.8(essentially the "brother" to the 875/905) and it gets as hot as a camp stove, when really working hard. Just let it vent.

And when I mean "working hard"...

I'm talking about playing this...
http://www.amazon.com/Gaucho-DVD-Aud...1298419&sr=1-3
With an Integra DPS 6.7, driving (at the time) DCM TF600/350 at 105-ish db.

That receiver is now in my bedroom running OHM Walsh 5 and 3(series 1). Even at "moderate listening" of a decent action movie(like one of the Bourne movies) at 90-ish DB peaks...the 8.8 gets hot enough to warm up a cup of coffee.

If you are worried about "pure 2.0"...

Get a Rotel integrated amp(an old one) and connect the 2nd zone pre-out from the Onkyo.

You won't need an integrated if the 2nd zone pre-out on the 875 is variable.
