I just woke up this morning and exactly the same thing!

Last 2 days it's been perfect, last night perfect, get up this morning, no sound, no picture!! I've done a full reset, and still nothing, so looks like I'll be sending mine back as well! This will be the 2nd time I've returned it, so will now be on my 3rd unit! A little dissapointed must say, but that's electronics I guess! :/

And just as a side note, in comparison to last night, it takes 5 times longer from when I press the power off button, for it to actually turn off! Is this a sign of something particular going wrong?

I had the problem of not being able to connect itunes or iPhone over airplay even though the network connection was fine (Iphone app worked perfectly). All I did was pull the plug out of the back for ten seconds, and it fixed it. SO that problem was solved thanks to a member here on the forum! (Thanks!)

Is the time capsule compatible with the ethernet on the sc-55? i want to hard wire an ethernet cable from the time capsule router and use the sc-55 to stream flacs ? Any one try it? I notice it supports apple thru wifi but i believe the network feature is PC only ? Is that accurate or can I use any NAS?

That's what I always thought, but I've got to say that my old stereo (an Apt-Holman preamp and a Crown D75 power amp) sounded far, far better on analog sources then my Pioneer SC55, both feeding DCM Time Windows for Front Left and Right. The old stereo had far more life and impact. If I didn't live in a relatively small apartment, I'd put in some switching so I could use both.

The Time Windows are an excellent speaker and as for analog sources sounding better are you referring to phono in which case IMO the older gear
did have better phono pre-amps or at least some you could adjust for different cartridges impedance and capacitance.
Have you noticed any difference in digital sources my take on that is the SC
is more dynamic yours may vary.

Hi All - would like some opinions from owners of SC-57 on:

1) the value/utility of the wireless network adapter -- AS-WL300?
2) how well the adapter does its job?

I ask because practically all of my other components (Elite tv, PS3, Oppo 95) are already set up for wireless networking, so I wonder what enabling the SC-57 is going to get me. This is my first Pioneer AVR - do they tend to offer a lot of firmware upgrades (a better OSD would be nice!)? Are there other cool features that I could get with a networked SC-57 that I won't get with everything else already set up for it?

Thanks,
JD

"upgrades"? no...

firmware fixes are occasionally released (although not always publicized) on an "as needed" basis...

if you hook it to the network, you can then use the app, which i've gathered is rather helpful...

Click here for a link to a little wireless adapter that works with anything with LAN. $50 if you want to go wireless...while not flawless in execution (signal quality lacks in a few the ones I use around the house). But if wireless is all you want...there you have it.

Another option is an Apple Airport Extreme (or other wireless bridge)to 'extend' your wireless to where your setup is and wire it right in to the back of the router. $180 will get you one of those. A bit pricier, but if you want to have devices near each other and wired up it is useful....if you have more than it

If you have more than the airport extreme can handle, toss in a little netgear $30 switch like this and happily plug in what you like. There is a gigabit version, if you care to future proof at all, that is $39.

I use both in my home. I do work in IT, with that in mind both were VERY easy to set up. Average user could do it by following directions and asking the almighty Google.

There certainly could be extra features that you might use on the SC-57. I chose to go with the 55 because of the cost savings...those with 57s should chime in as to why you might consider it.

1. It also happened to me, the receiver was reseted and I have to spend time to enter the names of the radio stations again.
2. Today I downloaded the new application iControlAV2012. It detect my SC-55, but it doesn't work. After that, I read that this applicion is compatible only with the new receivers. I am disappointed about the politique of Pioneer to not support the oldest models. The SC-55 is only 6 month and Pioneer had to allow it to work with the new application. I choose this receiver because it allow us to update his firmware via Internet. Since I have it, no update was released, so no improvements for it. Why should pay for this function if Pionneer doesn't support the models already in use?

You want the iControloAV2 from the app store for the SC-55 & SC-57.

they release new models with new features every year... that's life... get used to it...

when you buy a car, when next year's model comes out, do you drive down to the dealer and expect them to modify the one you bought last year to add the features they added this year?

firmware update capability is to fix issues...

I don't ask to change physical parts. I just ask to support existing models in their first year. I don"t think that there are a many differences between the Elite line released in October last year ans the vsx-1122. I think that Pioneer disabled in iControlAv2012 the possibility to work with the Elite line. Also, the new model has a color graphical interface. Is not very difficult to update the firmware for Elite line and to change the gray interface use a color one. I think that they have to respect the customers and to update the software in the first year.

like i said, get used to it... complaining will do no good... trust me... us owners of the susano complained mightily that we never got thongs that were promised to us, let alone things that weren't...

there will always be something more desireable in next years model...

I wouldn't wear a thong if they did ship it to me.

I can see his point about supporting it the first year. It's certainly not unusual in other markets, you might get updates to software you purchased for a year or some other timeframe. On other products, not so much, a new OS might come out and you likely have to pay for it. In general, you don't have to replace your old computer when a new OS comes out. And the new OS generally does run on it (though not always). And, for new software, sometimes if you purchased recently, they give you the new version. The new version doesn't typically require you to throw out your old stuff either.

However, to say "respect the customer and update the software the first year" is a little misleading. They DO update the software IF there is a bug and you need it fixed, and they can, etc. There was at least one update for the SC-55 I am aware of. However, I believe he meant ENHANCE, not update. That part is questionable, though, I wish it were so of course. I'd love to see feature enhancements. But, I agree it's unlikely.

Now you can understand why so many of us who have owned the high end Elites have given up on Pioneer. I kept mine for secondary use but a lot of us have fled to Denon's 4311 - it was enjoyable to connect a just bought receiver and have an upgrade ready to load. Not bashing Pioneer - I have 2 of their receivers in my house - just tired of seeing examples were other companies update their products and Pioneer continues to do nothing. Chris is from NJ so all those toxic dumps he claims to live near may have caused him to start wearing a thong

@t-town...

hey, when you drop 7 large, you get a few extra perks...

@sfatula... yup.. correct, they do "support" the avr... and do for several years, they fixed the star wars bug for at least 2 generations of avrs, and they fixed the dd+ bug last year that existed in the 05/07 since release...

to ask for the enhancements that are in the new model on the existing models is an expectation that is too much though... it simply doesn't happen... pioneer isn't unique in this...

i hate to think of how much money i've given to pioneer over the years... i was a LONG time fanboy...

as their latest effort for bdp's appears to be marginal (and that's being kind), no one can blame you on that...

The next Kuro will sadly only be produced in an alternate reality (the one where SACD outsells iTunes).

I will say that the higher-end VSX looks like a 'good value' relative to buying an Elite, if you want many of the newer features that have trickled down from the SCs.

The 2012 Elites will get the upgrades, they always do. For die hard Elite fans, they expect you to buy up every model year. I don't think that it too much to expect a upgrade for the iControlAV2 to the added features on the iControl2012.

I have the SC-57 and the RF100-U remote. I have a ipad2 with iControlAV2 installed and use it all the time. I like the control that I get over the 57. Now the iControl2012 has the same functions as the iControlAV2 but with added Video and Audio Parameter functions. If my remote works OK on the SC-57, then why can't they have the iControl2012 work with it also. It is not good marketing to leave those who spend the $$$$ on Elites to leave them out. I sent this same post to Pioneer asking about any IControlAV2 upgrades.

Also, the new vsx-1122 has color interface. Why Pionneer doesn't provide un firmware update with color interface for Elite products. It's only marketing to close the envirenmente for existing products.
Somebody tells that Denon continues to enhance the user experience during the product life.

@stefan...

because they don't... just stop, ok? a "product life" is NOT "how long you own it"...

see my most recent post in the "2012 pioneer" thread for why...

and as much as i'm a denon fanboy these days, no they don't add in any new features that weren't already promised (i.e. airplay, which was a promised feature that was added in during a model year cycle, and should be noted that it was a paid upgrade upon release)... a few higher end models have had paid upgrades made available...

the last pioneer "upgrade" for an existing model was a paid upgrade to the vsx-59...

"round round get around, I get around"...
